  • The next important milestone emerged in 1990 when three independent working groups described the role of2-glycoprotein I as a target antigen in antiphospholipid antibodies’ action (Galli M, et al; 1990, Matsura E, et al; 1990, McNeil HP, et al; 1990). This discovery substantially changed point of view of many of the researchers and also clinical practisers in the topic and it led to research of 2-glycoprotein I structure, function and confirmation of significance of its antibodies presence during the next years....

  • The first step of the screening process was a group or individual counseling session to explain the purpose and process of screening. A flipchart was used to assist in this process (see Appendix 2). During an individual counseling session, informed consent was obtained and pregnancy status was assessed. Syndromic assessment for sexually transmitted infections was part of the examination. For most of the project, women were screened primarily at health-center level by nurses using visual inspection with acetic acid (vinegar), known as VIA.

Sexuality is not openly discussed, so reaching families with RH/FP information and services has been difficult.

  • Every medical or surgical specialty has emergencies that are somewhat specific to that specialty. This is also true in obstetrics and gynecology. However, several characteristics set the specialty of Ob/Gyn apart from all others. Not only can nearly all of the emergencies seen in other specialties be seen in the field of Ob/Gyn, but pregnancy also brings a new and unique dimension to emergency situations in our specialty.

  • The surgical treatment of Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) by laparotomy ovarian wedge resection was first reported by Stein and Leventhal in 1935. However, the procedure was often associated with the development of periadnexal adhesions obviating the beneficial effects of surgery. Therefore, this surgical treatment became truly obsolete. Advances in laparoscopic techniques have resulted in a resurgence of interest in surgical induction of ovulation. Laparoscopic ovarian drilling (LOD) is a less invasive modification of ovarian wedge resection.
