Training in the biological sciences, and indeed in most sciences,
appropriately emphasizes mastery of techniques and theory –
essential elements of any original research endeavor. The less
glamorous steps to successful research are often neglected in the
formal training programs of scientists – such as how to plan a study
adequately, secure research funds effectively, present results (written
and oral) clearly and interestingly, and present qualifications in a
re ´sume ´ .
The purpose of the
CRC Handbook of Engineering Tables
is to provide in a single volume a ready reference
for the practicing engineer in industry, government, and academia. The tables and figures provided in
this book include data and information from all fields of engineering in a comprehensive format. This
information is organized into five sections: Electrical and Computer Engineering; Civil and Environmental
Engineering; Chemical Engineering, Chemistry and Material Science; Mechanical Engineering; and
General Engineering and Mathematics.
I have long lost count of how many websites I’ve built. You would
think after having built a few hundred of them I would have discovered
the “one true way” of doing it. I don’t think there is one true
way. What I have discovered are techniques that can keep CSS more
organized and more structured, leading to code that is easier to
build and easier to maintain.
I have been analyzing my process (and the process of those around
me) and figuring out how best to structure code for projects on a
larger scale. The concepts were vaguely there with the smaller sites
that I had worked on...
Utility green pricing sales continue to exhibit some growth, but growth has slowed in the past
two years, in particular. Collectively, utilities in regulated electricity markets sold about 4.8
billion kWh of green power to customers in 2008 (Table 9). Green pricing program sales to all
customer classes grew by 11% in 2008, compared to rates ranging from 26% to 56% in recent
years (Table 9 and Figure 4). The loss of the FPL program had a noticeable impact on sales.
Without the termination of the FPL program, utility green pricing program sales would have
grown at a rate of...

Geared to primary care practitioners, The Washington Manual® of Outpatient Internal Medicine focuses on common ambulatory medical problems encountered in each medical subspecialty. The book has a quick-reference format similar to The Washington Manual® of Medical Therapeutics, with a standard chapter template, a bulleted style, numerous tables and figures, and a two-color design. All chapters are written by house staff and faculty at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and Washington University School of Medicine....
Drawing on the collective expertise of world authorities, Ecological Basis of Agroforestry employs extensive use of tables and figures to demonstrate how ecologically sustainable agroecosystems can meet the challenges of enhancing crop productivity, soil fertility, and environmental sustainability. Divided into four sections, this comprehensive volume begins with a study of tree-crop interaction in tropical and temperate climates.
Masonry Instant Answers addresses questions that arise at the job site during the course of masonry construction. Materials and installation issues are explained in an easily grasped format that is filled with tables and figures. Both industry recommendations and code requirements for masonry construction and inspection of the construction are presented in this text, which can be carried to the project site.
Design issues, such as selection of materials or structural capacity of the masonry, are not discussed in this book since those topics are outside the scope.
Part of the International Code Council's widely successful Code Commentary series, the 2009 International energy conservation Code Commentary will give readers the tools they need to master the regulations set forth by the 2009 International Energy Conservation Code (IECC). The comprehensive yet practical guide contains the full text of the code, its tables and figures, as well as valuable, in-depth commentaries. These commentaries aim to explore the full meaning of the code, its implications, and its real-world applications.
Access 2003 is a powerful database application that allows users to Store data and retrieve the data to produce reports.
How to use this guide
This manual should be used as a point of reference following attendance of the introductory level Access 2003 training course. It covers all the topics taught and aims to act as a support aid for any tasks carried out by the user after the course.
The manual is divided into sections, each section covering an aspect of the introductory course. The table of contents lists the page numbers of each section and the table of figures indicates the...
Microeconomics covers core microeconomic principles using a clear and carefully constructed learning framework. The text provides a solid foundation in microeconomic analysis, using mathematical techniques where appropriate
DMOs tend to be part of the local, regional or national government and have political and
legislative power as well as the financial means to manage resources rationally and to ensure that
all stakeholders can benefit in the long term. Destination management and marketing should act as
tools and facilitators to achieve a complex range of strategic objectives, which will ultimately need
to satisfy the needs and wants of stakeholders. Four key generic strategic objectives should be
addressed by DMOs, as illustrated in Table 2.
Acid-base nomogram. Shown are the 90% confidence limits (range of values) of the normal respiratory and metabolic compensations for primary acidbase disturbances. (From DuBose, used with permission.)
Mixed Acid-Base Disorders Mixed acid-base disorders—defined as independently coexisting disorders, not merely compensatory responses—are often seen in patients in critical care units and can lead to dangerous extremes of pH (Table 48-2).
This manual should be used as a point of reference following attendance of the introductory level Access 2007 training course. It covers all the topics taught and aims to act as a support aid for any tasks carried out by the user after the course.
The manual is divided into sections, each section covering an aspect of the introductory course. The table of contents lists the page numbers of each section and the table of figures indicates the pages containing tables and diagrams.
We do not see significant differences in behavior of the younger and older
subjects. Somewhat surprisingly subjects more often than not chose the lower average
payoff decks. Among older subjects, 58% chose the lower payoff decks on four or more
of the six choices, while 59% of the younger subjects did so (Table 1 and Figure 3). The
proportions were similar across age groups for each of the six different deck pairs Older
women were significantly more likely than older men to choose the lower mean, higher
variance decks (Figure 4).Of the 54 choices made by the...
Figures from the KIEA, combined and put another way, tell us this: While women make
up more than 50 percent of the U.S. adult population, and about 46 percent of the
civilian workforce, they account for only about 35 percent of the people who get involved
in starting businesses.
(This number agrees fairly closely with other figures, not shown in the table above, which
find that of all privately held firms in the U.S, about 29 percent are ―women-owned‖ and
another 12 percent are ―equally owned‖ by women and men.)
So women lag at the...
Despite the success of the Men C programme the youngest members of society continue to
bear a disproportionate burden in terms of incidence of, and mortality from, IMD. The recorded
case fatality rate (CFR) for meningococcal disease varies between 2.6-10% each year (see table
accompanying Figure 1), similar to the 5.6% observed in England and Wales.
A mainstreaming approach to gender and development, in
which most operational staff bear some responsibility for integrating
gender-responsive actions into their work, requires a clear under-
standing of the individual responsibilities of staff occupying differ-
ent positions. The gender mainstreaming responsibilities of key
positions in the organization are shown in Table 2.1.
Note that figures presented in Table 6 are higher than those in Table 7 and Table 8
because they are compiled from multiple responses (people could tick as many boxes as
appropriate), whereas figures from Tanzania and Mozambique represent the most
commonly used channel (people could only tick one box). Nevertheless, these figures
confirm that TV currently plays a significant role in information communication to rural
areas, particularly weather and news.
