  • In this paper, we study the problem of extracting technical paraphrases from a parallel software corpus, namely, a collection of duplicate bug reports. Paraphrase acquisition is a fundamental task in the emerging area of text mining for software engineering. Existing paraphrase extraction methods are not entirely suitable here due to the noisy nature of bug reports. We propose a number of techniques to address the noisy data problem.

  • This paper reports the results of a preliminary experiment on the detection of semantic variants of terms in a French technical document. The general goal of our work is to help the structuration of terminologies. Two kinds of semantic variants can be found in traditional terminologies : strict synonymy links and fuzzier relations like see-also. We have designed three rules which exploit general dictionary information to infer synonymy relations between complex candidate terms. The results have been examined by a human terminologist.

Word forming units are thus relevant cues for the identification of terms in domainspecific texts. This article describes a method for the automatic extraction of terms relying on the detection of classical prefixes and word-initial combining forms. Word-forming units are identified using a regular expression. The system then extracts terms by selecting words which either begin or coalesce with these elements. ...

  • Staring at a shelf full of Photoshop books at the local bookstore, it seems that there are more special-effect “cookbooks” and technical tomes than anyone would ever care to read. The problem is that none of those “cookbooks” provide enough detail to really let you feel like you understand the program (blindly following the listed steps just doesn’t do it), and all of the technical books are deep into terms like rasters, vectors, and bit-depth settings. That’s the primary reason that most people aren’t truly comfortable with Photoshop.
