  • The theory of Mackey functors has been developed during the last 25 years in a series of papers by various authors (J.a. Green [8], a. Dress [5], T. Yoshida [17], J. Th~venaz and P. Webb [13],[15],[14], G. Lewis [6]). It is an attempt to give a single framework for the different theories of representations of a finite group and its subgroups. The notion of Mackey functor for a group G can be essentially approached from three points of view: the first one ([8]), which I call "naive", relics on the poset of subgroups of G.

  • This paper is concerned with learning categorial grammars in Gold’s model. In contrast to k-valued classical categorial grammars, k-valued Lambek grammars are not learnable from strings. This result was shown for several variants but the question was left open for the weakest one, the non-associative variant NL. We show that the class of rigid and kvalued NL grammars is unlearnable from strings, for each k; this result is obtained by a specific construction of a limit point in the considered class, that does not use product operator. ...

  • Solutions to this end are two-fold. CED needs to support skill development in non- traditional fields for women. For example women learn best in non-intimidating environments, and an all-female training and construction crew would be an excellent CED activity to meet the Canadian housing shortage. At the same time, itís important to work strategically toward improving wages in traditionally female occupations, such as childcare, and sewing operators. This has frequently been done through unionization.

  • This paper describes research toward the automatic interpretation of compound nouns using corpus statistics. An initial study aimed at syntactic disambiguation is presented. The approach presented bases associations upon thesaurus categories. Association data is gathered from unambiguous cases extracted from a corpus and is then applied to the analysis of ambiguous compound nouns. While the work presented is still in progress, a first attempt to syntactically analyse a test set of 244 examples shows 75% correctness.

  • This is an exciting time for professionals associated with physical activity and the health professions. We have seen a substantial increase in the amount and type of research being conducted. Qualitative research has grown in popularity and has gained respect as a viable method of answering important research questions. Despite its broad appeal and inclusion in many disciplines, however, qualitative research often has an ethereal or mystical feel to it, particularly for those practitioners with strong roots in physical activity and the health professions.

  • Relatively healthy older people, particularly those in the 60 to 70 age range, are likely to need services similar to other adult health center populations. They may face challenges similar to their younger counterparts; language barriers, limited health literacy, or cultural factors may impact health care access. Yet for the older-old, these familiar challenges are compounded by additional barriers to optimal care and quality of life. The disabled of any age often need supportive services to remain as healthy as possible and in the community.

  • We go on to explain our view of what sorts of things can be denoted or referred to by a verb, a verb phrase, a clause or an utterance. Finally we explain the concepts associated with what is traditionally considered to be lexical aspect (for example the contrast between a 'state verb' and a 'dynamic verb') and introduce the category of 'actualization aspect'

  • The overriding conclusion of the Merrill Research & Associates (2003) tracking study is that the U.S. wine industry now stands at a crossroads. For the first time in thirty years, a new generation of young adults gives evidence of a strong preference for wine as part of their lifestyles. Many of them are entering the category as core wine drinkers. With their significant age-group numbers and their adoption of wine in their mid-twenties, they are a leading indicator of great potential as their cohorts likewise reach adulthood.

  • ADC’s TrueNet® Category 6 riser cable, with best in class performance, features AirES® technology. It saves as much as 32% of the available space in cable runs and is a key component of the TrueNet structured cabling system. The smaller diameter also saves space in the communications closet, reduces the amount of cable management accessories required and lowers the risk associated with fire and smoke.

  • The NCRP has long recognized the need for a clear assessment of the magnitude of doses from various sources of radiation to which the population of the U.S. is exposed. In anticipation of the need to gather data for input into this process, five assessment committees, each addressing a different source category, were established. NCRP reports assessing exposures from natural background, consumer products, nuclear power generation, and diagnostic medical radiation have been published (NCRP, 1987a,b,c,d, NCRP, 1989)....

  • The insurance industry provides leadership in several key areas to address auto theft. Information provided to customers creates awareness and prompts practices that deter and prevent auto theft. Some companies offer discounts for car alarms and tracking and disabling devices. According to the National Association of Insurance Commissioners, laws in nine states require insurers to provide discounts on base rates for comprehensive insurance for antitheft devices.

  • Negative life events, such as death of a family member, argument with a spouse and loss of a job, play an important role in triggering depressive episodes. Therefore, it is worth to develop psychiatric services that can automatically identify such events. In this paper, we propose the use of association language patterns, i.e., meaningful combinations of words (e.g., ), as features to classify sentences with negative life events into predefined categories (e.g., Family, Love, Work).

However, it should be noted the potential for excessive optimism when making simplifying assumptions in the calculation of risk measures that span multiple categories of risk.

  • In (Kanazawa, 1998) it was shown that rigid Classical Categorial Grammars are learnable (in the sense of (Gold, 1967)) from strings. Surprisingly there are recent negative results for, among others, rigid associative Lamb ek (L) grammars. In this paper the non-lcarnability of the class of rigid grammars in LP (Associative-Commutative Lambek calculus) and LP0 (same, but allowing the empty sequent in derivations) will be shown.

  • This paper discusses the theoretical and practical concerns in part-of-speech (POS) tagging for Chinese. Unlike other languages such as English, Chinese lacks morphological marking in association with categorial alternations. We consider such categorial fluidity a continuum, and any categorial shift a transition, with special focus on the verb-noun shift.

  • This paper solves some puzzles in the formalisation of logic for discontinuity in categorial grammar. A 'tuple' operation introduced in [Solias, 1992] is defined as a mode of prosodic combination which has associated projection functions, and consequently can support a property of unique prosodic decomposability. Discontinuity operators are defined model-theoretically by a residuation scheme which is particularly arnmenable proof-theoretically.

  • To better understand the sources of outperformance, we undertake an attribution analysis that decomposes investor returns into that from (1) the selection of Pan-European funds, (2) the selection of country funds, (3) the selection of sector funds, and (4) the timing of country weights implied by the selection of country funds. This analysis shows that the superior returns associated with the macroeconomic-driven strategies arise from the last three sources of performance, and not from choosing Pan-European funds.

Thanks to AirES® technology this cable is up to 28% smaller than competitive products, and this reduction in size also results in a safer product with less material to burn in the unlikely event of a fire. AirES also improves attenuation, crosstalk, delay skew and impedance due to the unique dialectical characteristics associated with air.
