A natural next step in the evolution of constraint-based grammar formalisms from rewriting formalisms is to abstract fully away from the details of the grammar mechanism--to express syntactic theories purely in terms of the properties of the class of structures they license.

In text categorization, feature selection (FS) is a strategy that aims at making text classifiers more efficient and accurate. However, when dealing with a new task, it is still difficult to quickly select a suitable one from various FS methods provided by many previous studies. In this paper, we propose a theoretic framework of FS methods based on two basic measurements: frequency measurement and ratio measurement. Then six popular FS methods are in detail discussed under this framework.

A serious bottleneck of comparative parser evaluation is the fact that different parsers subscribe to different formal frameworks and theoretical assumptions. Converting outputs from one framework to another is less than optimal as it easily introduces noise into the process. Here we present a principled protocol for evaluating parsing results across frameworks based on function trees, tree generalization and edit distance metrics. This extends a previously proposed framework for cross-theory evaluation and allows us to compare a wider class of parsers. ...
Technology Education has gone through a lot of changes in the past decades. It has
developed from a craft oriented school subject to a learning area in which the
meaning of technology as an important part of our contemporary culture is
explored, both by the learning of theoretical concepts and through practical
activities. This development has been accompanied by educational research. The
output of research studies is published mostly as articles in scholarly Technology
Education and Science Education journals. There is a need, however, for more than
A computational vehicle for lexicography was designed to keep to the constraints of meaningtext theory: sets of lexical correlates, limits on the form of definitions, and argument relations similar to lexical-functional grA--~-r. Relational data bases look like a natural framework for this. But linguists operate with a nonnormalized view. Mappings between semantic actants and grammatical relations do not fit actant fields uniquely. Lexical correlates and examples are polyvalent, hence denormalized. ...
Asian Brand Strategy offers insights, knowledge and perspectives on Asian brands and branding as a strategic tool and provides a comprehensive framework for understanding Asian branding strategies and Asian brands, including success stories and challenges for future growth and strengths. The book includes theoretical frameworks and models and up-to-date case studies on Asian brands, and it a must-read for Asian and Western business leaders as well as anyone interested in the most exciting region of the world.
n this volume, Murray Rothbard has given us a comprehen-
sive history of money and banking in the United States, from
colonial times to World War II, the first to explicitly use the
interpretive framework of Austrian monetary theory. But even
aside from the explicitly Austrian theoretical framework under-
girding the historical narrative, this book does not “look” or
“feel” like standard economic histories as they have been writ-
ten during the past quarter of a century, under the influence of
the positivistic “new economic history” or “cliometrics.”...
Study of the Vietnamese language has seldom paid attention to the
characteristics and origin of Vietnamese Personal Pronouns. This possibly
stemmed from continuing debate as to the origin of the Vietnamese language
itself, and the apparent lack of a reliable theoretical framework for the
etymology of Vietnamese lexicon, apart from conventional distinction between
Sino-Vietnamese words and pure Nôm vocabulary.
Part I Context of Accounting. Part I describes the context and role of accounting in business and provides some theoretical frameworks. It is hoped that this will offer a foundation for readers’
understanding that accounting is more than a technical subject and is grounded in competing theories

The last two decades have witnessed an extensive growth in foreign direct investment
(FDI) flows to developing countries. This has been accompanied by an increase in
competition amongst the developing countries to attract FDI, resulting in a rise in
investment incentives offered by the host governments and removal of restrictions on
operations of foreign firms in their countries. This has also led to an ever-increasing
number of bilateral investment treaties (BITs) and regional agreements on...
The book includes theoretical frameworks and models and up-to-date case studies on Asian brands, and it a must-read for Asian and Western business leaders as well as anyone interested in the most exciting region of the world. The book presents the Asian Brand Leadership model illustrating the paradigm shift Asian brands need to undertake to unleash their potential.
Operations management techniques and operations strategy can successfully be
implemented to create more efficient and effective functionality within an enterprise.
While these techniques and strategies are not innovative in and of themselves, the
application of these techniques in new ways can prove to be extremely innovative.
The chapters in Advanced Topics in Applied Operations Management creatively
demonstrate a valuable connection among operations strategy, operations
management, operations research, and various departments, systems, and practices
throughout an organization....
This book explores the origins and practices of competency management, which has
arisen in the reactions of governments and managers to globalisation and increased
international competition in advanced industrial countries. The United States of
America (USA) and Britain have tended to lead the way in responding to these
environmental pressures by seeking to retain or regain their competitive advantage.
Each country has adopted different approaches to these pressures, although each has
influenced the other and some convergence of strategies and responses has evolved.
Computing the usual productivity measures requires data on the value of
transactions and either prices or quantities. In the final research study of this
volume, Erwin Diewert notes that Canada lacks direct price and quantity measures
for many important services industries. Other nations also have this problem.
As a result, the usual productivity indexes cannot be evaluated properly for
those services industries, nor can we get a complete picture of productivity performance
for the economy as a whole.
Biomedical Engineering is a highly interdisciplinary and well established discipline spanning across engineering, medicine and biology. A single definition of Biomedical Engineering is hardly unanimously accepted but it is often easier to identify what activities are included in it. This volume collects works on recent advances in Biomedical Engineering and provides a bird-view on a very broad field, ranging from purely theoretical frameworks to clinical applications and from diagnosis to treatment....
