  • There remains a paucity of text literature regarding forensic implications of the lower extremity. Forensic Medicine of the Lower Extremity: Human Identification and Trauma Analysis of the Thigh, Leg, and Foot encompasses human identification, biomechanics, trauma analysis, and new areas for potential forensic research with regard to the thigh, knee, leg, ankle, and foot. Initially, the reader may question what makes the lower extremity different enough from other anatomic regions that it merits a separate text.

  • Methods for analysing trauma injury data with missing values, collected at a UK hospital, are reported. One measure of injury severity, the Glasgow coma score, which is known to be associated with patient death, is missing for 12% of patients in the dataset. In order to include these 12% of patients in the analysis, three different data imputation techniques are used to estimate the missing values.

  • The aim of this book is to show how Heidegger’s (1927) existential philosophy enriches post-Cartesian psychoanalysis and how post-Cartesian psychoanalysis enriches Heidegger’s existential philosophy. It is thus intended as a contribution to both psychoanalysis and philosophy. Ludwig Binswanger and Medard Boss were two early pioneers who saw the value of Heidegger’s analysis of existence for psychotherapy and psychoanalysis.

  • Femoral shaft fractures are common in both the young and elderly due to high-impact trauma and low-impact trauma, respectively. Its treatment by indirect reduction through use of locking compression plates (LCPs) has been on the rise. The LCP possess several advantages in fracture fixation, combining angular stability through use of locking screws with misalignment correction and fracture reduction onto the plate through use of conventional screws.

  • We analyze the susceptibility of the Internet to random faults, malicious attacks, and mixtures of faults and attacks. We analyze actual Internet data, as well as simulated data created with network models. The network models generalize previous research, and allow generation of graphs ranging from uniform to preferential, and from static to dynamic. We introduce new metrics for analyzing the connectivity and performance of networks which improve upon metrics used in earlier research.

  • Plain x-ray plays a limited role in the evaluation of blunt abdominal trauma. Abdominal radiographs are usually unnecessary. X-rays of the chest and pelvis are often obtained to evaluate for concurrent thoracic or pelvic injuries. Abnormal chest x-ray findings of pneumothorax and rib fractures are associated with intraabdominal injuries and are indications for abdominal imaging if a mechanism for multisystem trauma is present. Common findings include free abdominal air (pneumoperitoneum), pneumothorax, and hemothorax.

The literature demon- strates a positive association between emotional expression and health (Pennebaker, 1989; Pennebaker & Beall, 1986). Findings indicate that emotional expression of negative and traumatic events has a salutary influence on immune functions and resistance to illness.

  • So far, we have stressed that integrating nominal variables and inflation targeting into the analysis is merely helpful for understanding boom-bust episodes. In fact, if one is not to wander too far from current standard models, it is essential. To clarify this point, it is useful to think of the standard real business cycle model that emerges when we strip away all monetary factors from our model. If we take a completely standard version of such a model, a signal shock is completely incapable of generating a boom-bust that resembles anything like what we see.

  • Abstract Dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans is an uncommon locally aggressive malignant neoplasm that most frequently appears in the trunk, followed by the extremities, head, and neck. But occurrence in the breast is extremely rare. We present a case of a 28-year-old woman, who had a history of trauma 5 years previously and excision 1 year before presentation at our clinic. We performed wide excision, together with microscopic and immunohistochemical analysis. No postoperative oncologic treatment was used and she remains disease-free 1 year after the surgery without any tumor recurrence.
