  • Financial market infrastructures (FMIs) that facilitate the clearing, settlement, and recording of monetary and other financial transactions can strengthen the markets they serve and play a critical role in fostering financial stability. However, if not properly managed, they can pose significant risks to the financial system and be a potential source of contagion, particularly in periods of market stress. Although FMIs performed well during the recent financial crisis, events highlighted important lessons for effective risk management.

In addition the average age of first birth is now 29.4 years compared with 28.

  • FMIs play a critical role in the financial system and the broader economy. For the purposes of this report, the term FMI refers to systemically important payment systems, CSDs, SSSs, CCPs, and TRs. 2 These infrastructures facilitate the clearing, settlement, and recording of monetary and other financial transactions, such as payments, securities, and derivatives contracts (including derivatives contracts for commodities). While safe and efficient FMIs contribute to maintaining and promoting financial stability and economic growth, FMIs also concentrate risk.

  • University students go on field research trips or excursions during the low season. Therefore, destinations have to identify the seasonality patterns of their various markets and attract compatible segments, which will enable them to maximise their total yield (both average expenditure and occupancy levels) (O’Brien, 1996). It is also important to understand other factors that influence the decision of consumers to purchase. The social status and peer groups of consumers often influence what is acceptable and desirable as a destination.

  • Exactly how schooling affects young women’s ‘autonomy’, especially with respect to her fertility and the life-chances of her children, is a contested issue. We draw on semi-structured interviews with young married women with at least one child under the age of six, in urban and rural areas of Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, north India, to elaborate differences in attitudes and experiences in early married life between young married women with at least eight years of schooling and those with little or no formal schooling.

  • Investment transactions are accounted for on the trade date. Realized gains (losses) from the sale of investments and unrealized appreciation (depreciation) in the value of investments are calculated with reference to the average cost of the related investments which exclude brokerage commissions and other trading expenses. All net realized gains (losses), unrealized appreciation (depreciation) in value, and transaction costs are attributable to investments and derivative instruments which are deemed held for trading, and are included in the Statement of Operations....

  • A reverse Murabahah transaction can be used to provide a purchaser with a cash lump sum. Under a reverse Murabahah the purchaser acquires the asset from the financier and then sells it either back to the original owner or another party. The original purchaser therefore receives a cash lump sum but remains obliged under the original transaction to make repayment on the asset purchase plus the agreed margin (and as in a Murabahah transaction the payments are due in instalments). For all types of Murabahah transactions it is a key element that the financier acquires legal title to the...

  • For the purposes of this report, an FMI is defined as a multilateral system among participating institutions, including the operator of the system, used for the purposes of clearing, settling, or recording payments, securities, derivatives, or other financial transactions. 5 FMIs typically establish a set of common rules and procedures for all participants, a technical infrastructure, and a specialised risk-management framework appropriate to the risks they incur.

  • A surge in expenditure after payday could also reflect stockpiling of durable goods. Households might try to minimize transaction costs of shopping by buying all of their durable goods in one large shopping trip. Given the presence of binding credit constraints, and even a slight degree of impatience, households could choose to time this large shopping trip at the beginning of each pay period.

  • This paper begins with looking to changes in the definition of marketing. It traces marketing's expansion from a discipline concerned with business transactions in an economic market place, through a discipline concerned with any organisation that can be said to have customers, to a discipline concerned with all organisations in their relationships with all their publics, not just their customers.

  • Several efforts have been made since 1990 to overcome the effort required to maintain curated protein family data- bases by automatically clustering the protein sequence databases using sequence similarity. The general approach is to compute all possible pairwise comparisons, and then cluster them in some fashion, shifting the effort from humans to computers. This otherwise computationally very demanding process has benefited from the introduc- tion of the rapid PSI-BLAST system(Altschul et al., 1997).

  • Most people can remember where they were when news broke of a worldshattering event, e.g. the assassination of President Kennedy or the death of Princess Diana. As testament to a ‘sad life’ as a VAT consultant, I can remember precisely where I was on 21 June 1988 (in my car and on my way to address a meeting of the West Wycombe Women’s Institute) when the European Court of Justice (ECJ) released its judgement against the UK’s zero rated treatment of commercial property transactions.

Children attending childcare especially need all of the recommended vaccinations to protect themselves, the other children, and the childcare provider, and their families. Several diseases that can cause serious problems for children and adults can be prevented by vaccination. These diseases are chicken pox, diphtheria, Haemophilus influenzae...

  • When the needle is moved in different directions, it samples a much wider area than a core biopsy (FNA is thus more representative than a core biopsy). The to and fro movements and changing the direction of the needle, while it is still inside the lesion are the two crucial steps in procuring an adequate representative sample. Movement of the needle is adjusted according to the type of lesion. A sclerotic lesion will require more force than a soft tumor. A cyst will almost aspirate by itself.

  • A large proportion of real estate transactions are carried out with the help of real estate agents.1 These agents provide expertise (on pricing, preparing a property for sale, and bargaining) and convenience (by showing the property, advertising and holding open houses, and taking care of paperwork). One advantage of working with an agent who is a realtor is access to the Multiple Listing Service (MLS), a database that compiles information on all properties listed by local realtors. Typically, realtors charge a commission of around 6 percent.

  • These features are enabled by the fact that Spanner as- signs globally-meaningful commit timestamps to trans- actions, even though transactions may be distributed. The timestamps reflect serialization order. In addition, the serialization order satisfies external consistency (or equivalently, linearizability [20]): if a transaction T1 commits before another transaction T2 starts, then T1’s commit timestamp is smaller than T2’s. Spanner is the first system to provide such guarantees at global scale.

  • Our infrastructure (Akash1 ) consists of a virtual storage system prototype designed to run on commodity hard- ware. It supports data accesses to multiple virtual vol- umes for any storage client, such as, database servers and file systems. It uses the Network Block Device (NBD) driver packaged with Linux to read and write log- ical blocks from the virtual storage system, as shown in Figure 3. NBD is a standard storage access proto- col similar to iSCSI, supported by Linux. It provides a method to communicate with a storage server over the network.
