  • In most statistical machine translation systems, the phrase/rule extraction algorithm uses alignments in the 1-best form, which might contain spurious alignment points. The usage of weighted alignment matrices that encode all possible alignments has been shown to generate better phrase tables for phrase-based systems. We propose two algorithms to generate the well known MSD reordering model using weighted alignment matrices.

  • This paper is focused on one aspect of SOPMI, an unsupervised approach to sentiment vocabulary acquisition proposed by Turney (Turney and Littman, 2003). The method, originally applied and evaluated for English, is often used in bootstrapping sentiment lexicons for European languages where no such resources typically exist. In general, SO-PMI values are computed from word co-occurrence frequencies in the neighbourhoods of two small sets of paradigm words.   • We discuss the proof of and systematic application of Case’s sum rules for Jacobi matrices. Of special interest is a linear combination of two of his sum rules which has strictly positive terms. Among our results are a complete classification of the spectral measures of all Jacobi matrices J for which J − J0 is Hilbert-Schmidt, and a proof of Nevai’s conjecture that the Szeg˝ condition o holds if J − J0 is trace class.

The formulation of the equations of motion using the Newtonian or Lagrangian approach leads to a set of second-order simultaneous differential equations.
