  • To conclude this section, given full financial services of commercial banks, AMCs associated with commercial banks (BR) dominate mutual fund industry in Thailand. • January 2012 saw the completion of the U.S. Army’s Chemical Materials Agency’s (CMA’s) task to destroy 90 percent of the nation’s stockpile of chemical weapons. CMA completed destruction of the chemical agents and associated munitions stored at six of eight continental U.S. storage facilities as well as chemical weapons deployed overseas, which were transported to Johnston Atoll, southwest of Hawaii, and demilitarized there. The remaining 10 percent of the nation’s chemical weapons stockpile is stored at two remaining continental U.S.

  • The NCRP has long recognized the need for a clear assessment of the magnitude of doses from various sources of radiation to which the population of the U.S. is exposed. In anticipation of the need to gather data for input into this process, five assessment committees, each addressing a different source category, were established. NCRP reports assessing exposures from natural background, consumer products, nuclear power generation, and diagnostic medical radiation have been published (NCRP, 1987a,b,c,d, NCRP, 1989)....

  • I have been associated with uncertainty calculations for quite sometime. Asia Metrology Program (APMP) took interest in unification of expressing the measurement results along with uncertainty. In those days the uncertainty components were divided according to source of errors. The errors were named as random and systematic errors. Hence components of uncertainty were named random uncertainty and systematic uncertainty. Around 1980, BIPM took initiative by circulating questioners to the countries who were members of Metre Convention.

  • Economic policy makers, macroprudential supervisors or investors are interested in reli- able estimates of the equilibrium level of credit in the economy. While earlier theoretical and empirical studies concentrated mostly on the aggregate level of credit to the pri- vate sector or the value of corporate credit, more recent studies focus on the problem of credit to households.

  • We should support projects that improve the efficiency and productivity of public media operations. Initiatives that help stations raise more money, reduce overhead and operating costs, and attain operating scale will increase the effectiveness, sustainability, and impact of stations whether funding is reduced or increased.  In this context of uncertainty, the Three Ds are more important than ever: Dialogue is at the core of station impact.

  • Thank you for picking up this book! We believe that if you are reading this page, you are an individual seeking to gain a greater degree of familiarity with cybercrime and espionage, and more likely than not, believe that the realities outweigh the fear, uncertainty, and doubt associated with these two topics. Our desire in writing this book was to initiate a conversation pertaining to the subject matter from a different perspective.

  • Every decision involves an analysis of possible future events (costs, outcomes, markets, etc.) and selection of a choice among competing alternatives. Making a decision is making a selection. Decision analysis is the process of dismantling a decision so as to determine the inputs and processes that went into arriving at a decision. Risk management is managing (preparing for) future uncertainties. Uncertainties are risks. They are the unknowns associated with future events. The decisions we make today create the risks that we must manage tomorrow.

  • The project was characterised by high uncertainty, since neither cost nor time could be accurately estimated. Times of completion were based on probabilities: optimistic, pessimistic, and most likely. This led to what has come to be known as the programme evaluation review technique (PERT). Later a new methodology known as project planning and scheduling (PPS) was introduced in the private sector. PPS required realistic estimates of cost and time, and was considered more definitive than PERT.

  • An infrastructure bank would also help overcome the many problems associated with the annual appropriations process and could provide the types of financial assistance that are most useful for infrastructure projects. By providing long-term loans and loan guarantees, the new bank would make year-to-year federal support significantly more predictable.

  • Facilitate access to information on the health effects of indoor and outdoor air pollution and methods for reducing the risk. Conduct health impact assessments to determine the magnitude of the health effects associated with changes in air pollution. This information can be used to identify cost- effective measures to improve public health, identify critical uncertainties and suggest productive areas of research. Facilitate country actions to strengthen air quality management.

  • The factors that underlie the correlations between sociality, the formation of strong social bonds, and fitness outcomes are not fully understood, and there is some uncertainty about the direction of the causal links between these behaviors and fitness outcomes. However, a growing body of evidence suggests that sociality affects physiology. When rats (Rattus norvegicus) are housed in isolation, they become hypervigilant and fearful of new stimuli (Cavigelli and McClintock 2003; Cavigelli et al. 2006).
