If there is a subject of really universal interest and utility, it is the art of writing and speaking one’s own language effectively. It is the basis of culture, as we all know; but it is infinitely more than that: it is the basis of business. No salesman can sell anything unless he can explain the merits of his goods in effective English (among our people), or can write an advertisement equally effective, or present his ideas, and the facts, in a letter. Indeed, the way we talk, and write letters, largely determines our success in life
Discovery, learning, and societal engagement are mutually supportive core
missions of the research university. Transfer of knowledge to those in society
who can make use of it for the general good contributes to each of these
missions. These transfers occur through publications, training and education of
students, employment of graduates, conferences, consultations, and
collaboration as well as by obtaining rights to inventions and discoveries that
qualify for patent protection (intellectual property, or IP) and licensing them to
In the spring of 1879 I gave at the Old South Meeting-house in Boston a course of lectures on the discovery
and colonization of America, and presently, through the kindness of my friend Professor Huxley, the course
was repeated at University College in London. The lectures there were attended by very large audiences, and
awakened such an interest in American history that I was invited to return to England in the following year
and treat of some of the philosophical aspects of my subject in a course of lectures at the Royal Institution.
There is increased interest in California and other states in providing universal access to publicly funded high-quality preschool education for one or two years prior to kindergarten entry. In considering such a program, policymakers and the public focus on the potential benefits from a universal preschool program, as well as the
Saad Ibrahim has over 30 years of diversified experience in the Petroleum Industry in Western Canada and internationally, including projects in Libya, Yemen, Kazakstan, Venezuela and Argentina, with special expertise in reservoir engineering with emphasis on field development planning, evaluation of depletion strategies and production optimization of a wide spectrum of oil and gas fields.
The primary aim of the thesis is to find out the second-year English majors‟ common errors on verb tenses and word choices in translating Vietnamese texts into English. The study also aims at finding causes of these problems and then suggesting some possible strategies to overcome the problems. This textbook provides an accessible yet rigorous treatment of environmental
and natural resource economics, as well as the emerging subject of sustainability
and sustainable development. This third edition is built on the foundation of
more than ten years of classroom experience working with and learning from
thousands of students at Humboldt State University and other institutions.
This report is the outcome of the collective effort of nine scholars, who have
been engaged in a on the “The Role of University in Regional Innovation
System”. The project has been possible thanks to the financial support from
the Nordic Industrial Fund – Centre for Innovation and Commercial Development.
The Nordic Industrial Fund has shown great interest in the project
and has made valuable comments. We would like to thanks for the financial
support enabling us to engage in this work......
This book evolved from material developed over several years by Anand Raja-raman and Jeff Ullman for a one-quarter course at Stanford. The courseCS345A, titled “Web Mining,” was designed as an advanced graduate course, although it has become accessible and interesting to advanced undergraduates. What the Book Is AboutAt the highest level of description, this book is about data mining. However,it focuses on data mining of very large amounts of data, that is, data so largeit does not fit in main memory. Because of the emphasis on size, many of ourexamples are about the Web or data deri...

• This chapter aims to provide additional information on several techniques of metal forming processes other than those conventional process already mentioned in previous chapters. • The requirements for the process selection will be added, which are based on advantages and disadvantages of each type of non-conventional metal forming processes.
• This chapter provides fundamental knowledge of different methods of productions / heat treatments of magnesium alloys and the use of various types of cast and wrought magnesium alloys. • The influences of alloy composition, microstructure and heat treatment on chemical and mechanical properties of magnesium alloys will be discussed in relation to its applications.

Introduction : wire drawing
• Wire drawing involves reducing the diameter of a rod or wire by passing through a series of drawing dies or plates.
Volume 4 delves into our interconnected, networked society. The Internet
is explored in detail, including its history, applications, and backbone. Molecular
computing and artificial life are discussed, as are mobile computing
and encryption technology. The reader will find articles on electronic banking,
books, commerce, publishing, as well as information access and overload.
Ethical matters pertaining to the electronic universe are also addressed.
Volume 4 extends our aesthetic interest with articles on photography
and the use of computers in art.
Second, the sample period in this study covers a full business cycle, thereby
providing a better indication of the relative variability of lending activities experienced by
commercial banks over this period. Brewer, Minton, and Moser (2000) document a universal
downward trend of C&I lending over a sample period of 1985 to 1992, a period during which
the economy experienced a significant cyclical downturn.
