Twenty-five years ago, Georges Köhler and César Milstein invented a means of
cloning individual antibodies, thus opening up the way for tremendous advances in the
fields of cell biology and clinical diagnostics (1). However, in spite of their early
promise, monoclonal antibodies (MAbs) were largely unsuccessful as therapeutic
reagents resulting from insufficient activation of human effector functions and
immune reactions against proteins of murine origin.
Recombinant human transcobalamin (TC) was probed with 17 monoclonal
antibodies (mAbs), using surface plasmon resonance measurements. These
experiments identified five distinct epitope clusters on the surface of holo-TC. Western blot analysis of the CNBr cleavage fragments of TC allowed
us to distribute the epitopes between two regions, which spanned either the
second quarter of the TC sequence GQLA…TAAM(103–198) or the C-ter-minal peptide LEPA…
Trading partner Canada has established the Canadian Adaptation and Rural Development
(CARD), national and regional adaptation programs that provide assistance to the sector in the area
of research, innovation, capturing market opportunities, environmental sustainability, food safety
and quality, human resource capacity building and rural development.
A Gallup study of over 250,000 sales people and 25,000 sales managers supports our internal
findings that the highest performers use a variety of sales approaches and styles. Even within the
same company, many different sales approaches are used by these top performers. In fact, if all the
top performers were forced to use a single sales style, many of them would cease to be top
producers, would get frustrated and quit. Gallup’s conclusion: No one style is best. Gallup’s study
supports our consistent findings: The bank must be flexible enough to allow people to...
In 1930 Ferguson modified the technique and published his series of 280 patients who had
prostate needle aspiration biopsy using an 18-gauge needle via the transperineal approach
and was able to remove adequate tissue in 78 to 86% of his cases (Ferguson, 1930) (figure 6).
The patient was placed in the lithotomy position and local anaesthetic was infiltrated just
lateral to the median raphe 1cm anterior to the anus. The index finger of the left hand was
introduced into the rectum guiding an 18 gauge needle introduced into the perineum taking
care to avoid the rectum and urethra....
Historically, the Ontario Medical Association (OMA) has taken a strong stand advocating
reductions in air pollution in Ontario as an essential means to improve public health. Beginning
in 1967, the Ontario Medical Association Council endorsed a program of air pollution control in
Ontario which included the establishment of monitoring stations and regulation of emissions from
industry and vehicular traffic (15). Shortly thereafter, the government enacted the Air Pollution
Control Act encompassing a number of the recommendations from the OMA.
There are several exemptions in many State laws that leave children unprotected in vehicles.
nearly half of the States, children can ride unsecured if all safety belts are in use. This means that
if a vehicle is overcrowded and other occupants are using all of the safety belts, nobody can be
cited if children are unbelted. Another common exemption allows parents, guardians, or other
adults to “attend to the personal needs of the child.” This exemption permits an adult to carry a
child on his or her lap, while the vehicle is in motion, for...
Finally, the last design goal for the API is that it should
be possible for a library to use the mechanism without
fear of conflicts with the main program. This allows
party code that uses the API to be linked into the
application without conflict. While on the surface this
appears to be obvious, several counter examples exist.
Within a process, a signal may only have a single sig-
nal handler registered, so library code typically can not
use signals. X-window applications only allow for a sin-
gle event loop.

Use of flow cytometry to develop and characterize a set of monoclonal antibodies specific for rabbit leukocyte differentiation molecules
Neuropilin (NRP) and plexin (Plex) that are now known to be semaphorin receptors
were initially identified as antigens for monoclonal antibodies (MAbs) that
bound to particular neuropiles and plexiform layers of the Xenopus tadpole optic
tectum, several years before the discovery of semaphorin. The extracellular segment
of the NRP protein is a mosaic of 3 functionally different protein motifs that
are thought to be involved in molecular and/or cellular interactions, suggesting that
NRP serves in a various cell-cell interaction by binding a variety of molecules.
In addition to explicitly named Properties, “code” and “id” attributes are special cases. Every entity in the Thésaurus
– Concepts, Kinds, Properties, and Roles – has an associated “code” and “id.” These are used as unique identifiers in
the Apelon development software, and, as such, are not defined explicitly as Roles or Properties. This required a
hard-coded definition of both entities. They were defined as owl:AnnotationProperties, just like other Properties in
the Thésaurus, and this allowed them to be attached to all of the definitions in the ontology.
Mucin glycoproteins on breast cancer cells carry shortened
carbohydrate chains. These partially deglycosylatedmucin 1
(MUC-1) structures are recognized by the monoclonal
antibody SM3, which is being tested for its diagnostic utility.
We used NMR spectroscopy to analyze the binding mode
and thebindingepitopeof peptideandglycopeptideantigens
to the SM3 antibody. The pentapeptide PDTRP and the
glycopentapeptide PDT(O-a-D-GalNAc)RP are known lig-ands of the monoclonal antibody.
Traditional herbal medicine has been used since ancient
time in many parts of the world where access to formal
and modern healthcare is limited. Nepal is not exempt
and in mid-hills, mountainous and rural areas of the
country where access and services are limited, herbal
medicine is the basis of treatment of most illness
through traditional knowledge. It is estimated that
approximately 90% of the Nepalese people reside in
rural areas where access to government health care facil-
ities is lacking . These people rely predominantly on
traditional herbal medicine.
Quality control has an emerging importance in every field of life. Quality control is a process that is used to guarantee a certain level of quality in a product or service. It might include whatever actions a business deems necessary to provide for the control and verification of certain characteristics of a product or service. With the improvement of technology everyday we meet new and complicated devices and methods in different fields. Quality control should be performed in all of those new techniques.
Information on long-term health consequences of unsafe abortion is
scarce. The WHO estimates that about 20–30% of unsafe abortions
result in reproductive tract infections and that about 20–40% of these
result in upper-genital-tract infection and infertility. An estimated 2% of
women of reproductive age are infertile as a result of unsafe abortion,
and 5% have chronic infections.
Unsafe abortion could also increase
the long-term risk of ectopic pregnancy, premature delivery, and
spontaneous abortion in subsequent pregnancies.
