To determine why some teachers are more effective than others, Bosshardt and Watts
(1990) investigated teacher effects on student learning in high school economics classes using
fixed- and random-effects models. The teacher characteristics they examined included college
credits in economics, non-credit workshops in economics, years of teaching experience, and the

Vitrification has been investigated for tissue-engineered bone and blood vessels. Liu &
McGrath (2003) explored the potential of vitrification for the cryopreservation of tissueengineered
bone constructs consisting of a hydroxyapatite scaffold-cell complex. Cell
survival was 92.0% for suspended cells and 43.0% for attached cells. In terms of tissueengineered
blood vessel constructs, the effects of vitrification and conventional
cryopreservation were compared (Elder et al., 2005). Collagen-based vascular constructs
were used as models in this study.
Abstract While there have been many reports investigating the biological activity and signaling mechanisms of isoprostanes, their role in biology, particularly in platelets, appears to still be underestimated. Children rarely present with the symptoms classically associated with heart disease in
adults (chest pain, shortness of breath, swollen ankles) – rather they present with a
variety of symptoms such as failure to thrive, frequent chest infections, or
unexplained ‘funny turns’.
A careful history and examination is key, as are special investigations such as CXR,
ECG and pulse oximetry. An echocardiogram is the gold standard investigation
required to confirm the diagnosis.
