  • Algorithm is used to define the notion of decidability. It is a set of rules that precisely defines a sequence of operations. This is essential for computers to process information. Computer programs contain algorithms that detail specific instructions a computer should perform to carry out a specified task. The traditional computer program performs specific instructions sequentially, and uses crisp values of information which do not support uncertainties.

  • The term was coined when electronics, with the personal computer, was very popular and internet was still at its dawn. It is a very successful term, by now firmly in schools, universities, and SMEs education and training. Just to give an example 3.5 millions of students were engaged in some online courses in higher education institutions in 2006 in the USA.

  • Information Technology is growing rapidly. With the birth of high-resolution graphics, high-speed computing and user interaction devices, Virtual Reality has emerged as a major new technology in the mid 90es, last century. An explosion has occurred in our understanding of Virtual Reality, Virtual Environments and in the technologies required to produce them in the last decade. Virtual Worlds and Virtual Environments are produced for people, for users to interact with computer and with complex information sets....

  • What is knowledge? How can the knowledge be explicitly represented? Many scientists from different fields of study have tried to answer those questions through history, though seldom agreed about the answers. Many representations have been presented by researchers working on a variety of fields, such as computer science, mathematics, cognitive computing, cognitive science, psychology, linguistic, and philosophy of mind. Some of those representations are computationally tractable, some are not; this book is concerned only with the first kind....

  • Vision plays a fundamental role for living beings by allowing them to interact with the environment in an effective and efficient way. The Machine Vision goal is to endow computing devices, and more generally artificial systems, with visual capabilities in order to cope with not a priori predetermined situations. To this end, we have to take into account the computing constraints of the hosting architectures and the specifications of the tasks to be accomplished.

  • Our thesis shows the quality of semantic vector representation with random projection and Hyperspace Analogue to Language model under about the researching on Vietnamese. The main goal is how to find semantic similarity or to study synonyms in Vietnamese. We are also interested in the stability of our approach that uses Random Indexing and HAL to represent semantic of words or documents. We build a system to find the synonyms in Vietnamese called Semantic Similarity Finding System. In particular, we also evaluate synonyms resulted from our system.

  • We present a syntactically enriched vector model that supports the computation of contextualized semantic representations in a quasi compositional fashion. It employs a systematic combination of first- and second-order context vectors. We apply our model to two different tasks and show that (i) it substantially outperforms previous work on a paraphrase ranking task, and (ii) achieves promising results on a wordsense similarity task; to our knowledge, it is the first time that an unsupervised method has been applied to this task. ...

  • In a headed tree, each terminal word can be uniquely labeled with a governing word and grammatical relation. This labeling is a summary of a syntactic analysis which eliminates detail, reflects aspects of semantics, and for some grammatical relations (such as subject of finite verb) is nearly uncontroversial. We define a notion of expected governor markup, which sums vectors indexed by governors and scaled by probabilistic tree weights.

  • In this paper we show how to train statistical machine translation systems on reallife tasks using only non-parallel monolingual data from two languages. We present a modification of the method shown in (Ravi and Knight, 2011) that is scalable to vocabulary sizes of several thousand words. On the task shown in (Ravi and Knight, 2011) we obtain better results with only 5% of the computational effort when running our method with an n-gram language model.

  • Standard IR systems can process queries such as “web NOT internet”, enabling users who are interested in arachnids to avoid documents about computing. The documents retrieved for such a query should be irrelevant to the negated query term. Most systems implement this by reprocessing results after retrieval to remove documents containing the unwanted string of letters. This paper describes and evaluates a theoretically motivated method for removing unwanted meanings directly from the original query in vector models, with the same vector negation operator as used in quantum logic. ...
