Solar energy, light and heat radiation from the Sun, has been exploited by humans since ancient times using a variety of technology development than ever before. Solar radiation along with secondary resources of energy like wind and solar energy, water power and biomass, make the most of renewable energy available on earth. Only a tiny fraction of the available solar energy is used.
This 1993 document entitled "Assessment of Sources of Air, Water, and Land Pollution: A Guide to Rapid Source Inventory Techniques" provides techniques for conducting source inventories in Chapter 2 and describes models for estimating air emissions under current controls in Chapter 3. Appendix II includes the United Nations (UN) classification of industries and services.
Assessment of source of air, water, and land pollution - Part II : Approaches for consideration in formulating evironmantal control strategies. The environment is a combination of natural factors and social surrounds the outside of a certain system. They affect this system and identify trends and status of its existence. Environment can be seen as a set, in which the system is considered as a subset. Environment of a system is considered to be interactive with that system
Every year in the U.S. factories release over 3 million tons of toxic chemicals into the land, air and water. This hazardous waste causes us to lose over 15 million acres of land every year, it leads to respiratory complications and other health problems and it makes our rivers and lakes too polluted for us to swim in and drink.
The Mekong River Delta (MD), the most downstream part of the Mekong river, is known as the biggest "rice bowl" of Vietnam. Currently, 2.4 million ha are used for
agriculture. During the rainy season part of the Delta is flooded. Along the 600 kmcoast,
the sea tide strongly influences the water quality by sea water intrusion. In addition, an area of 2-million ha is covered by acid sulfate soils. Also, the MD is very
densely populated with intense associated water pollution.
Mekong River, the 11th largest river in the world, is the main water source for irrigation, fishery,
and domestic use… In short, the living of the whole population in the Mekong Delta (MD) is depending and will be depended on this resource. The MD of Vietnam is located at the most downstream part of the Mekong river basin. With a
population of 17 million inhabitants living in 4 million hectares of land, the MD has great
potentials for agricultural production. The MD is the most important agricultural production
region for the whole country.
The detection of pharmaceutical residues remained elusive until instruments such as liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry became commonplace in environmental laboratories. The documentation of the occurrence of pharmaceutical residues and endocrine disrupting chemicals in water resources has raused questions about their long-term effects in the ecosystem and their potential effects on human health.
This paper identifies five water environmental problems in the Delta that are the principal limiting factors of agricultural production and human health, i.e. (i) the salinity intrusion in the coastal areas, (ii) the effect of acid sulfate soils, (iii) the polluted water from human activities, (iv) the fresh water shortage in the dry season and (v) the flood in the rainy season. The discussion and conclusion present the people’s adaption strategies and water gorvernance issues in pursing sustainable management in the region.......
Mekong river, especially in Southern Vietnam, lowest part of the Mekong River Basin. While most of Vietnamese farmers in MD use water from the rivers and canals for their daily drinking, irrigation, domestic use, etc., effects of water environment to human life is more crucial. Vise visa, impacts of human activities to water environment are also considered to ensure the sustainable development of
The Mekong River is one of the few great, largely unregulated rivers of the world. Its Delta
is both agriculturally and aquatically highly productive and a major contributor to the
region’s food production and export earnings. Water and land issues of the Delta must be
considered as integral with those of the Mekong Basin as a whole. A majority of the Mekong
Basin’s 60 million, ethnically diverse peoples rely on the River’s aquatic resources and rice
production for their subsistence. For many, 40 to 60% of their protein intake is from fish
from the Mekong.
Difficulty in accessing ground water without disturbing ground-water flow patterns,
chemistry, microbiology, and the physical and chemical makeup of formation materials
has made accurate characterization of in situ ground-water conditions a very challenging
Critical aspects for the wider application of ultraviolet (UV) light in drinking water
treatment sometimes have been described, in spite of the success of the method as
established in the field:
• Absence of well-established and generally accepted design rules
• Absence of a permanently active residual agent in the treated water
• Suspicions of the possible photochemical formation of by-products
• Possibility of revival–reactivation by repair mechanisms of irradiated
• Need for operational control of the permanent reliability of the technique...

T HIS book, Water and Wastewater Treatment: A Guide for the Nonengineering
Professional, presents all the basic unit processes involved in drinking
water and wastewater treatment, step-by-step, in jargon-free language. It
describes each unit process, what function the process provides in water or
wastewater treatment, and the basic equipment each process uses. It details
how the processes fit together within a drinking water or wastewater treatment
system, and surveys the fundamental concepts that make up watedwastewater
treatment processes as a whole....
Water quality is one of the key factors affecting the environmental health of the Mekong river
system. As the livelihoods of most of the 60 million people who live in the Lower Mekong
Basin (LMB) wholly or partly depend on aquatic resources, the environmental health of the
river is a major concern to the governments of the countries in the basin. In 1985, the Mekong
River Commission (MRC) established the Water Quality Monitoring Network (WQMN)
to provide an ongoing record of the water quality of the river, its major tributaries, and the
The generation of wastes as a result of human activities has been continuously speeding up since the beginning of the industrial revolution. Hence, both optimized waste water treatment technologies and modern tools to assess the effects of pollution sources are necessary to prevent the contamination of aquatic ecosystems The book offers an interdisciplinary collection of topics concerning waste water treatment technologies, water quality monitoring and evaluation of waste water impact on natural environments.
“Just do an Internet search.” “It’s on the Internet.” How often have we said or been told that we could find it on the
Internet. This third edition of The Water Encyclopedia: Hydrologic Data and Internet Resources started from a premise
that most of the information provided within this publication could be found on the Internet. As our team of contributing
authors started reviewing each section within each chapter, it soon became apparent that you cannot always find it on the
