  • This book is concerned with Ultra-Low-Frequency (ULF)-electromagnetic waves observed on the Earth and in Space. These are so-called geomagnetic variations or pulsations. Alfv´en’s discovery related to the influence of the strong magnetic field on the conducting fluids (magnetohydrodynamics) led to development of the concept that the ULF-waves are magnetospheric magnetohydrodynamic (MHD)-waves. MHD-waves at their propagation gather information about the magnetosphere, ionosphere, and the ground. There are two applied aspects based on using the ULF electromagnetic oscillations.

  • In this chapter, a solution of EM radiation from a prolate spheroidal antenna, excited by a voltage across an infinitesimally narrow gap somewhere around the antenna center, is obtained. Three specific cases are considered: an uncoated antenna, a dielectric-coated antenna, and an antenna enclosed in a confocal radome. The method used is that of separating the scalar wave equation in prolate spheroidal coordinates and then representing the solution in terms of prolate spheroidal wave functions.

In this paper we study the fluctuations of the matrix elements for the desymmetrized quantum cat map. We present a conjecture for the distribution of the normalized matrix elements, namely that their distribution is that of a certain weighted sum of traces of independent matrices in SU(2).
