Accuracy

The development of robust accuracy assessment methods for the validation of spatial data represents a difficult challenge for the geospatial science community. The importance and timeliness of this issue are related directly to the dramatic escalation in the development and application of spatial data throughout the latter 20th century. This trend, which is expected to continue, will become increasingly pervasive and continue to revolutionize future decision-making processes.

In this paper we demonstrate that there is a strong correlation between the Question Answering (QA) accuracy and the log-likelihood of the answer typing component of our statistical QA model. We exploit this observation in a clustering algorithm which optimizes QA accuracy by maximizing the log-likelihood of a set of question-and-answer pairs.

While OOV is always a problem for most languages in ASR, in the Chinese case the problem can be avoided by utilizing character n-grams and moderate performances can be obtained. However, character ngram has its own limitation and proper addition of new words can increase the ASR performance. Here we propose a discriminative lexicon adaptation approach for improved character accuracy, which not only adds new words but also deletes some words from the current lexicon.

We evaluate the accuracy of an unlexicalized statistical parser, trained on 4K treebanked sentences from balanced data and tested on the PARC DepBank. We demonstrate that a parser which is competitive in accuracy (without sacrificing processing speed) can be quickly tuned without reliance on large in-domain manuallyconstructed treebanks. This makes it more practical to use statistical parsers in applications that need access to aspects of predicate-argument structure.

This paper presents a method of improving the accuracy of subcategorization frames (SCFs) acquired from corpora to augment existing lexicon resources. I estimate a confidence value of each SCF using corpus-based statistics, and then perform clustering of SCF confidencevalue vectors for words to capture cooccurrence tendency among SCFs in the lexicon.

We compare the CCG parser of Clark and Curran (2007) with a state-of-the-art Penn Treebank (PTB) parser. An accuracy comparison is performed by converting the CCG derivations into PTB trees. We show that the conversion is extremely difficult to perform, but are able to fairly compare the parsers on a representative subset of the PTB test section, obtaining results for the CCG parser that are statistically no different to those for the Berkeley parser.

Modeling of individual users is a promising way of improving the performance of spoken dialogue systems deployed for the general public and utilized repeatedly. We define “implicitly-supervised” ASR accuracy per user on the basis of responses following the system’s explicit confirmations. We combine the estimated ASR accuracy with the user’s barge-in rate, which represents how well the user is accustomed to using the system, to predict interpretation errors in barge-in utterances. Experimental results showed that the estimated ASR accuracy improved prediction performance.

This paper demonstrates a conceptually simple but effective method of increasing the accuracy of QA systems on factoid-style questions. We define the notion of an inverted question, and show that by requiring that the answers to the original and inverted questions be mutually consistent, incorrect answers get demoted in confidence and correct ones promoted. Additionally, we show that lack of validation can be used to assert no-answer (nil) conditions.

We aim at finding the minimal set of fragments which achieves maximal parse accuracy in Data Oriented Parsing. Experiments with the Penn Wall Street Journal treebank show that counts of almost arbitrary fragments within parse trees are important, leading to improved parse accuracy over previous models tested on this treebank (a precis ion of 90.8% and a recall of 90.6%). We isolate some dependency relations which previous models neglect but which contribute to higher parse accuracy.
