  • Optimal conditions for the extraction of black fungus polysaccharides were 350 W, 5, 35 min and 90 ◦C, for ultrasonic power, ratio of water to sample, extraction time and extraction temperature, respectively. Gas chromatography (GC) analysis showed that black fungus polysaccharides contained glucose, xylose, mannose and ribose. Their molar percentages were 6.8%, 34.2%, 50.7% and 8.9%, respectively. FT-IR and NMR analysis showed typical chemical structure of black fungus polysaccharides.

  • To obtain the basic information on human exposure to mercury (Hg) due to gold mining activities in North of Viet Nam, total mercury was determined for human hair and blood samples collected from population living in gold mining area. The results indicate that the mercury concentrations measured in 98 blood samples with ranging from 1.128 to 22.751 ppb and 65 hair samples with ranging from 0.379 to 2.440 ppm, the good correlation between concentration of mercury in hair and blood samples was found in people and the ratios of hair Hg to blood hair were 195 for males and 142 for females

  • Factor VII-activating protease (FSAP) circulates as an inactive zymogen in the plasma. FSAP also regulates fibrinolysis by activating pro-urokinase or cellular activation via cleavage of platelet-derived growth factor BB (PDGF-BB). As the Marburg I polymorphism of FSAP, with reduced enzymatic activity, is a risk factor for atherosclerosis and liver fibrosis, the regulation of FSAP activity is of major importance.

  • The sequencing of the genome ofRalstonia solanacearum[Salanoubat M, Genin S, Artiguenave F,et al.(2002) Nature415, 497–502] revealed several genes that putatively code for polyphenol oxidases (PPOs). This soil-borne pathogenic bacterium withers a wide range of plants. We detected the expression of two PPO genes (accession numbers NP_518458 and NP_519622) with high similarity to tyrosinases, both containing the six conserved histidines required to bind the pair of type-3 copper ions at the active site....

  • In this study, nitrogen was used as a dopant to defect into the TiO2 lattice making contributions to the visible light absorption of nitrogen-doped TiO2. N-TiO2 material was prepared from K2TiF6 and NH3 as precursors. The N-TiO2 photocatalyst was prepared under the condition of 1 M NH3 solution, 14 % N/TiO2 mass ratio and the calcination temperature of TiO(OH)2 was 600 oC for 5 hours. The obtained results indicated that the simultaneous existence of both anatase and rutile phase of pattern of N-TiO2 and the average particle size was approximately 30 nm.

  • In all fields of inquiry, whether financial, scientific, or any other, there is danger of not seeing the woods for the trees. Nowhere is this danger greater than in the analysis of assets and liabilities as well as in cash management, in a leveraged financial environment with derivative instruments that change from assets to liabilities, and vice versa, depending on their fair market value.

  • What can’t be measured can’t be improved. Even though Supply Chain Management is the most talked about topic today, currently no tool is available to measure any manufacturing organizations’ supply chain efficiency. Unlike productivity and or quality measurement, where the parameter can be measured objectively and expressed in unit or ratio, supply chain measurement is currently more of a qualitative statement.

  • Mutual funds charge two kinds of fees: expenses and loads. Expenses comprise the management fee (typically a fixed percentage of assets under management) and other recurring operating costs—such as custodian, administration, accounting, registration, and transfer agent fees. Rather than charging explicit fees for these expenses, funds deduct them on a daily basis from the fund's net assets. Expenses are expressed as a percentage of assets under management (the expense ratio). Loads are one-time fees used to compensate distributors.

What's the student-teacher ratio? Are schools in rural areas different from schools in towns? Are there textbooks? Who wrote them? When? Do parents pay for them? Or are they issued free of charge by the government? What percentage of the population completes primary school? What's the ratio of girls to boys? Is there a national primary leaving examination? What happens to those who don't get into s...

  • (Glossary) A Activity Ratios measures used to assess the efficiency of a firm’s use of assets; e.g., sales divided by assets. Area Structure an organizational form that divides and organizes the firm’s activities according to where operations and people are located (also known as place structures, geographic divisions). C CAD/CAM Network the linking up of multiple design and manufacturing activities (both within and across) firms through the use of complex networks of computers. CAD stands for computer-assisted design; CAM stands for computer-assisted manufacturing.

  • We ¯nd that when the hypothetical benchmarks are recognized as being unavailable for investment, there need not exist close substitutes for them in the universe of mutual funds. For an investor who believes completely in the accuracy of the Fama-French model and precludes managerial skill, the perceived maximum Sharpe ratio is only 66 percent of what could be achieved by direct investment in that model's benchmarks. For a believer in the Carhart four-factor model, the corresponding value is 54 percent.

(1997) Microbiology 143, 3165–3174]. This alteration increases plasma membrane H+-ATPase hydrolytic activity.

  • Phosphorylation of the mycobacterial transcriptional activator, EmbR, is essential for transcriptional regulation of theembCABoperon encoding cell wall arabinosyltransferases. This signaling pathway eventually affects the resistance to ethambutol (a frontline antimycobacterial drug) and the cell wall Lipoarabinomannan⁄Lipomannan ratio (an important determinant for averting the host immune response).

The results of the decomposition of organic matter partly in combined sewer network significantly reduced levels of BOD, while reducing nitrogen only a small part. The imbalance of BOD, nitrogen ratio is a challenge for treatment of wastewater - especially to ensure the nitrogen meets requirements.
