  • Why is this treatment fair? Why don’t money funds have to report a market valueNAV? Because the securities inmoneymarket funds are of very high quality and have only a very short time tomaturity. As a result, the odds are very high that investors will get their money back when the securities come due and that their values won’t vary much between now and then. That means that the movements in the fund’s NAV will be small—usually less than $0.005 or one-half cent per share.

  • Technological innovations can also play a critical role. Firs they can simplify expensive, hard-to-use technologies, such as ventilators and tools for administering treatments making them more affordable and usable in the home or community, where most babies are born. Healthcare businesses should look at their product lines (analyzing the number of units they manufacture, their ease of use, pricing, and integration with distribution networks) and make sure they can be used in a home or community environment.

  • As previously noted, Planned Parenthood affiliates are currently the dominant WHP providers in their markets. While Planned Parenthood clinics served slightly below half (45%) of the patients statewide (as seen in Table 4), they provided care to an even higher proportion of patients in the market areas in which they are located. In the five markets examined, Planned Parenthood affiliates serve more than half of the WHP patients. In Hidalgo and Lubbock Counties, Planned Parenthood affiliates serve more than four-fifths (84% each) of WHP patients.

  • Swidden cultivation was a major activity for local livelihoods until 1992–1993, when most of the households were resettled as part of the government’s fixed cultivation program. Called ‘327 Program’ (1992–1997), it was the first effort of the GoV to develop industrial plantations and to decentralize control over and reallocate benefit-sharing of forest resources in Vietnam (Barney 2005), in line with the ‘Doi Moi’ economic reform (which, with six major economic changes, helped Vietnam come out of the economic crisis in 1986).

  • The summer/winter difference in plasma volume may be related to the regularly observed summer fall in red blood cell values and total protein. In a fully dehydrated camel with 65% body water, alimentary water has been reported as 12%, which is similar to the figure for tropical cattle. The total water content of the camel is considerably greater in hot dry weather (up to 75%) than in cooler periods (down to 50%), which indicates its physiological water conserving capability.

  • Discussion of nanotechnology can quickly become complex as a full analysis involves advanced chemistry, biology, physics, computer science, and engineering. The properties of nano-scale materials are governed by laws of quantum physics, causing materials to display properties and characteristics that would be considered by the laws of classic Newtonian physics. It is these intermolecular forces which cause nanotechnology to be both a vexing research problem, and yet have enormous potential.

  • Recent studies have shown that differences in life history may lead to consistent inter-individual variation in behavioural traits, so-called behavioural syndromes, animal personalities or temperaments. Consis- tencies of behaviours and behavioural syndromes have mainly been studied in non-cooperative species. Insights on the evolution of coopera- tion could be gained from studying individual differences in life histories and behavioural traits.

  • Most important, the need of creating network effects in the development of a cloud platform will keep low the margins for a while and will maximize the speed of diffu- sion of cloud computing between firms at the global level. Therefore, in the long run, we expect a rather competitive situation on the supply side of cloud computing. In front of these rapid evolution, it is crucial to understand the economic impact of the introduction of this general purpose technology. For sure, the diffusion of cloud computing is going to create a solid and pervasive impact on the global econ- omy.

  • Relatedly, controlling for the forecast error of the change in fiscal policy does not, in our application, provide a way of estimating the causal effect of fiscal policy on growth. Over the two-year intervals that we consider, changes in fiscal policy are unlikely to be orthogonal to economic developments. Thus, the forecast error of fiscal consolidation over our two-year intervals cannot be interpreted as an identified fiscal shock and cannot yield estimates of actual fiscal multipliers. A large literature seeks to identify such exogenous shifts in government spending and revenues.

  • Stakeholder green is a shade darker than market green. It applies market green logic to a variety of key stakeholder groups such as customers, suppliers, employees, communities, shareholders, and other financiers. There are many different ways to slice the stakeholder pie. Companies can seek to maximize the benefits of one group, or they can seek to harmonize the interests of all groups. Stakeholder green gets its color from responding to the needs of some or all stakeholder groups.

  • One of the most influential studies of the pace of evolutionary change was pub- lished in 1971 by two young paleontologists at the American Museum of Natural History named Niles Eldredge and Stephen Jay Gould. They pointed out that the fossils of a typical species showed few signs of change during its lifetime. New species branching off from old ones had small but distinctive differences. Eldredge carefully documented this stasis in trilobites, an extinct lineage of armored arthropods. He counted the rows of columns in the eyes of each sub- species.

  • The laceration may initially be difficult to recognize in sonography or may appear slightly echogenic band. Acute splenic lacerations are seen on contrast-enhanced MDCT as linear or branching areas of low attenuation with well-defined margins (Figure 5.). When lacerations extend through the organ capsule, hemoperitoneum results; if the capsule is intact, a subcapsular hematoma may be demonstrated. With time, the lacerations decrease in size and number. The margins become less well defined, and the area becomes isodense compared with normal splenic parenchyma.
