This study aimed to evaluate the role of nasal nitric oxide (NO) in the management of patients with persistent allergic rhinitis (PER). Nasal fractional exhaled nitric oxide (FENO) was measured by electroluminescence device. Patients with PER were randomized for treatment with antihistamine (ATH) combined with leukotriene receptor antagonists (LRA) or only with intranasal steroids (INS).

In this study, the electrochemical properties of desloratadine, which is in the second generation antihistamines group, were determined by bismuth film electrode (BiFE) in aqueous and aqueous/surfactant solutions. This compound gave an irreversible and diffusion-controlled reduction peak at about –1.65 V by cyclic voltammetry. It was found that the addition of cationic surfactants (cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) increased the reduction current signal of desloratadine, while anionic (sodium dodecylsulfate (SDS) and nonionic (Tween 80) surfactants were found to have an adverse effect.

Fexofenadine is an important medicament having significant antihistaminic activity. It is currently being prepared by chemical route which is in numerous stages of development with a yield of less than 10%. In this study, bio-transformation of terfenadine to fexofenadine was investigated using few microbial strains. Among the microbes studied, Absidia corymbifera ATCC14058 showed the highest conversion efficiency in a base line study.

The purpose of the present paper is to describe the efficacy of horizontal mattress sutures in managing post-partum uterine prolapse in Malabari goats. Three cases of post-partum uterine prolapse were presented to Veterinary Hospital, Nedumkandam, Idukki, Keralawith the history of everted uterus hanging from the vagina. All of the cases were presented within 10 hours following the parturition. The prolapsed uterus was washed by using normal saline solution followed by washing with 1:1000 potassium permanganate solution.

A female Jersey calf around nine months was brought to veterinary dispensary, with a history of severe bilateral swelling at the vulva after coming from the grazing. On observation, found it was a wasp sting at multiple sites by the presence of erythematous spots on the vulval area. The animal was treated with NSAID, Antihistaminics, topical corticosteroids ointment and advised for cold fomentation. The animal was recovered from the initial anaphylactic reaction. After three days of therapeutic management, the animal showed uneventful recovery from the wasp bite injury.

A novel simple, direct and selective gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC/MS) procedure was developed for the determination of the antihistamine drug dimenhydrinate (DMH) in presence of six of its related substances and potential impurities, namely, diphenylmethane, diphenylmethanol, benzophenone, orphenadrine, caffeine and 8-chlorocaffeine. The method involved resolution of the underivatized compounds using a trifluoropropylmethyl polysiloxane (Rtx-200) capillary column and the mass spectrometric detection was carried out in the electronimpact (EI) mode.
