  • Few fi elds of medicine have witnessed such impressive progress as the diagnosis and treatment of liver tumors. Advances in imaging technology, the development of novel contrast agents, and the introduction of optimized scanning protocols have greatly facilitated the non-invasive detection and characterization of focal liver lesions. Furthermore, image-guided techniques for percutaneous tumor ablation have become an accepted alternative treatment for patients with inoperable liver cancer.

Some of these include drawing with the element, offline storage, the new and elements, drag-and-drop functionality, Microdata, embedded fonts, and others.

  • Basic Asymptotic Theory This chapter summarizes some definitions and limit theorems that are important for studying large-sample theory. Most claims are stated without proof, as several require tedious epsilon-delta arguments. We do prove some results that build on fundamental definitions and theorems. A good, general reference for background in asymptotic analysis is White (1984). In Chapter 12 we introduce further asymptotic methods that are required for studying nonlinear models. 3.

  • In Europe, ambient concentrations of PM10 have been monitored in some urban networks since 1990, but there is currently no coherent overall European PM10 data set, mainly because PM10 has only been systematically monitored in a few member states. In addition, there is, as yet, no standardised method for monitoring PM10 across Europe, although standardisation of PM10 measurement methods is under development (cf. CEN/TC 264/WG6).

  • The French work was based on the available Black Smoke (BS) data. A correlation analysis between BS and PM10 (TEOM method7 ) was first carried out. It was found that at urban background sites, BS and PM10 (TEOM) are about equal. Following this, linear relationships were sought between the BS data and land use categories in the areas surrounding the measurement sites. Multiple regression analysis was performed for three categories of sites: urban, suburban and rural. Based on these regressions and using the land use data set, a PM10 map was established.

  • The population exposure without PM10 fraction attributable to road traffic is shown in Figure 6. Compared to total PM10, the frequency distribution changes considerably. Most people would live in areas with PM10 values less than 20 µg/m3. In France and Switzerland, less than 3% of the population would live in areas with PM10 greater than 20 µg/m3. In Austria, this portion is higher due to an increased non-traffic caused regional PM10 background.

  • In this paper we analyse in more detail the implications of Gabaix’s theory, taking as well an international perspective that looks at four economic areas. However, we do not restrict ourselves to considering big firms. Rather, we analyse the predictive power stemming from a large cross section of firms’equity prices with the key finding that, in a given month, it is only a small subset of these firms that help improve predictability. Overall, the composition of the set of most predictive firms remains stable for around half a year.

Where possible, information included in the previous Manual based on on-going reviews has been replaced by more recent material. Evidence is graded A (derived from randomised controlled trials - RCTs), B (observational studies) and C (professional consensus). These are broad categories and the quality of evidence within each category varies widely.
