  • This study uses what Cresswell (2003) refers to as a ‘mixed methods approach’, one that combines quantitative and qualitative data collection and a ‘sequential explanatory strategy’ in which the collection and analysis of the quantitative data is followed by the collection and analysis of the qualitative data (p 215).

  • Biological signal analysis1 encompasses several interdisciplinary topics that deal with analysing signals generated by various physiological processes in the human body. These signals could be electrical, chemical or acoustic in origin and an analysis of these signals are often useful in explaining and/or identifying pathological conditions of the human body. However, these signals in their rawest form do not provide much information and therefore, the motivation behind biological signal analysis is to extract (i.e. to reveal) the relevant information.

  • With its highly developed capacity to detect patterns in data, Perl has become one of the most popular languages for biological data analysis. But if you're a biologist with little or no programming experience, starting out in Perl can be a challenge. Many biologists have a difficult time learning how to apply the language to bioinformatics. The most popular Perl programming books are often too theoretical and too focused on computer science for a non-programming biologist who needs to solve very specific problems....

  • This book synthesizes current research in the integration of computational intelligence and pattern analysis techniques, either individually or in a hybridized manner. The purpose is to analyze biological data and enable extraction of more meaningful information and insight from it. Biological data for analysis include sequence data, secondary and tertiary structure data, and microarray data.

  • The analysis of flow and state interest are examples of perspectives where the individual is not seen as the center and origin of deeply engaging experience. Despite this shift in focus away from the individual and toward the environment, scholars in these areas should not be seen as occupying the same territory in the realm beyond rationality and control as the behaviorist camp. Instead, this new interactionism finds new ground by ...

  • Although I’ve identified different kinds of authority, it’s possible for one person to possess several or all of them. However, most of the time, authority is distributed across team leaders. The more complex the distribution of authority is, the more planning effort you’ll need to be effective. In Chapter 16, I’ll cover how to deal with situations where you need more authority than you have. For now, it’s enough to recognize that planning involves these different kinds of power. Common planning deliverables To communicate requirements, someone has to write them down.

  • It is promising, however, that a a majority of male and female respondents perceive social media as an enabler for women’s empowerment. This is coupled with the robust growth of social media usage among youth in the Arab region. If lessons are to be drawn from youth utilization of social media during the recent popular movements in the Arab world, then in light of the growing sense of empowerment today, the strong positive perceptions shown in our survey suggest that social media can continue to play an important role in empowering Arab women in the future. However, this will only...

  • Door frames should be solidly anchored to the rough opening. There are often spaces left between the rough opening stud at a point midway up the door jamb. These spaces create a poor anchorage for hardware making the door easy to kick open. If possible, the door molding should be removed and these spaces should be filled or “shimmed” prior to mounting any new lock strikes. If the entry door opens inward, the stop strip should actually be part of the wood frame, not applied. The stop strip is a wood strip installed on or milled into the door jamb (it’s the part of the jamb that...

  • In addition, copper induced endogenous reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation and activated isoenzymes of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT). The molecular mechanism of rice roots in response to copper toxicity at mRNA expression level was analyzed by microarray technique. Functions and roles of genes were also analyzed by bioinformatic tools AgriGO and MapMan. Gene ontology analysis revealed that 1900 Cu responsive genes were involved in phytohormones, reactive oxygen species, signaling pathways, transcription factors, transport activities, antioxidant defense systems.
