This study aims to: (1) quantify the indoor and outdoor BC concentrations in two different high rise apartments in Hanoi; (2) initially evaluate factors influenced BC concentrations at these apartments.

Daily personal exposure to black carbon (BC) in different microenvironments in Hanoi, Vietnam was quantified for the first time. In this study, a portable instrument, microAethe® model AE51, was used to continuously measure BC concentrations in various microenvironments within buildings and transportation modes.

In recent years, rice straw open burning (RSOB) activity has commonly occurred after the harvest in the countryside of Hanoi. This activity has caused negative impacts on air quality, especially it emits a large amount of black carbon (BC), a short lived climate pollutant (SLCP). As the other SLCPs , BC directly affects human health and ecosystem. This paper presents the results of measured BC concentrations in RSOB season in Lai Yen commune, Hoai Duc district in Hanoi.
