  • The relationship between the manufacturers of electronic components and the assemblers of electronic circuitry resembles that between two different orders of living beings, for example insects and plants: they need one another to be able to exist, and for that reason there are close links between the evolutionary paths of both. The shapes and the dimensions of their bodies, or respectively their functions, must match one another, so that whatever is needed to ensure the survival of either species can be properly performed. Any mistakes or mismatches are punished by extinction....

  • This book takes a fresh look at programs for advanced studies for high school students in the United States, with a particular focus on the Advanced Placement and the International Baccalaureate programs, and asks how advanced studies can be significantly improved in general. It also examines two of the core issues surrounding these programs: they can have a profound impact on other components of the education system and participation in the programs has become key to admission at selective institutions of higher education.

  • This project explores the process of drawing a caricature from a photo, by utilizing a complex grid. The average drawing time on this type of project generally runs between 20 to 40 hours. To give you an idea of the time I spent on each aspect, I included a brief drawing journal. This lesson is divided into the following six sections: SKETCHING WITH HELP FROM A GRID: You lightly sketch the outline of the subject by utilizing a complex grid to establish the placements of various components....

  • Nonlinear finite element analysis is an essential component of computeraided design. Testing of prototypes is increasingly being replaced by simulation with nonlinear finite element methods because this provides a more rapid and less expensive way to evaluate design concepts and design details.

  • Although PN was initially relatively expensive, its components are often less expensive than specialty enteral formulas. Percutaneous placement of a central venous catheter into the subclavian or internal jugular vein with advancement into the superior vena cava can be accomplished at the bedside by trained personnel using sterile techniques. Peripherally inserted central catheters can also be placed within the lumen in the central vein, but this technique is usually more appropriate for non-ICU patients.

  • Based on the public consultations, relevant experiences and research, a number of criteria were developed for a new program that puts the needs of pedestrians first. The criteria call for new street furniture elements to provide exceptional design, universal accessibility, safety, quality maintenance, pedestrian-oriented placement and sustainable components. Revenues from selective advertising could finance the program and return a benefit to the City for the privilege of occupying the public realm. The principles in this document are the result of the consultations and research.

  • Pipelined Natural Language Generation (NLG) systems have grown increasingly complex as architectural modules were added to support language functionalities such as referring expressions, lexical choice, and revision. This has given rise to discussions about the relative placement of these new modules in the overall architecture. Recent work on another aspect of multi-paragraph text, discourse markers, indicates it is time to consider where a discourse marker insertion algorithm fits in.
