  • The use and definition of high-strength concrete (HSC) has seen a gradual and continuous development over many years. In the 1950s, concrete with a compressive strength of 5000 psi (34 MPa) was considered high strength. In the 1960s, concrete with compressive strengths of 6000 and 7500 psi (41 and 52 MPa) were produced commercially. In the early 1970s, 9000 psi (62 MPa) concrete was produced. Today, compressive strengths approaching 20,000 psi (138 MPa) have been used in cast-in-place buildings.

  • In the present study, the synergic effects of cementitious materials in the ternary binder containing cement, silica fume, fly ash on the workability and compressive strength were evaluated by using the D-optimal design of Design-Expert 7. The ternary binder composed of 65 vol.-% cement, 15 vol.-% SF and 20 vol.-% FA at the W/Fv ratio of 0.50 is the optimum mixture proportions for the highest compressive strength of the UHPC.

  • In this paper, quarry stone dust was used as an alternative to natural sand for concrete mix proportion. Moreover, the effect of partial to full replacement of natural river sand with this type of aggregate on the workability, compressive strength and flexural strength of concrete was studied. The results showed that although the use of quarry stone dust caused a reduction in slump value, compressive and flexural strength were comparable to the case of using natural sand.

One of these systems, a ternary binder composed of calcium aluminate cement (CAC), ordinary Portland cement (OPC), and calcium sulfate (C$Hx), called ettringite binder, offers a possibility of very rapid development in mechanical strength. In this research, 18 different ternary mixtures were tested with two types of calcium sulfate, i.e. anhydrite and hemihydrate.

  • Physical and mechanical properties of several bamboo species have been studied extensively. Chapter 3 presents the fiber length distribution of Phyllostachys pubescens at different age, layer and location. Contact angle of different layers of the bottom portion of three year old bamboo were measured by dynamic contact angle measurement. Specific gravity and bending properties of bamboo at different ages, horizontal layers, and height locations were also determined. Also compressive strength at different ages and height locations were determined.

  • This paper presents the result of research on equipment development of vacuum injection molding technique for preparation the chopped bamboo fiber polymer composite and some properties of obtained composite material. For the vacuum injection molding technique, firstly the dry fibers were plated in the mold. Then the mold was closed by the vacuum bag, the air inside the mold was sucked out by a vacuum pump, due to the difference of the pressure in side and outside the mold, the polymer liquid was transferred to the closed mold and impregnated the bamboo fiber.
