Objectives of the thesis: The thesis will focus on studying the dynamic behavior of a planar mechanism which has one or more elastic bars, such as calculating the elastic deformation of the links, and assessing the effect of the deformation back on the movement of the structure during the work. The ultimate goal is to help minimize the negative impact of the elastic vibrations as well as limiting the elastic vibrations.

FTIR spectroscopy has been applied to study the coordination structures of Mg2þ and Ca2þ ions bound in Akazara scallop troponin C (TnC), which contains only a single Ca2þ binding site. The region of the COO – antisymmetric stretch provides information about the coordination modes of COO – groups to the metal ions: bidentate, unidentate, or pseudo-bridging. Two bands were observed at 1584 and 1567 cm21 in the apo state, whereas additional bands were observed at 1543 and 1601 cm21 in the Ca2þ-bound and Mg2þ-bound states, respectively.

Methanol:coenzyme M methyltransferase from methanogenic archaea is a cobalamin-dependent enzyme composed of three different subunits: MtaA, MtaB and MtaC. MtaA is a zinc protein that catalyzes the methylation of coenzyme M (HS-CoM) with methylcob(III)alamin. We report zinc XAFS (X-ray absorption fine structure) results indicating that, in the absence of coenzyme M, zinc is probably coordinated by a single sulfur ligand and three oxygen or nitrogen ligands. The effects of physiologically relevant hypoxia on the catalytic activity of cytochromecoxidase (CytOX), mito-chondrial gene expression, and both nuclear and mito-chondrial encoded CytOX mRNA levels were investigated in murine monocyte macrophages, mouse C2C12 skeletal myocytes and rat adrenal pheochromocytoma PC12 cells. Our results suggest a coordinated down regulation of mito-chondrial genome-coded CytOX I and II and nuclear genome-codedCytOX IV andVbmRNAs during hypoxia.
