Objectives of the thesis: The thesis will focus on studying the dynamic behavior of a planar mechanism which has one or more elastic bars, such as calculating the elastic deformation of the links, and assessing the effect of the deformation back on the movement of the structure during the work. The ultimate goal is to help minimize the negative impact of the elastic vibrations as well as limiting the elastic vibrations.

FTIR spectroscopy has been applied to study the coordination structures of Mg2þ and Ca2þ ions bound in Akazara scallop troponin C (TnC), which contains only a single Ca2þ binding site. The region of the COO – antisymmetric stretch provides information about the coordination modes of COO – groups to the metal ions: bidentate, unidentate, or pseudo-bridging. Two bands were observed at 1584 and 1567 cm21 in the apo state, whereas additional bands were observed at 1543 and 1601 cm21 in the Ca2þ-bound and Mg2þ-bound states, respectively.

Methanol:coenzyme M methyltransferase from methanogenic archaea is a cobalamin-dependent enzyme composed of three different subunits: MtaA, MtaB and MtaC. MtaA is a zinc protein that catalyzes the methylation of coenzyme M (HS-CoM) with methylcob(III)alamin. We report zinc XAFS (X-ray absorption fine structure) results indicating that, in the absence of coenzyme M, zinc is probably coordinated by a single sulfur ligand and three oxygen or nitrogen ligands. In the presence of coenzyme M, one (N/O)-ligand was replaced by sulfur, most likely due to ligation of the thiol group of coenzyme M....

The effects of physiologically relevant hypoxia on the catalytic activity of cytochromecoxidase (CytOX), mito-chondrial gene expression, and both nuclear and mito-chondrial encoded CytOX mRNA levels were investigated in murine monocyte macrophages, mouse C2C12 skeletal myocytes and rat adrenal pheochromocytoma PC12 cells. Our results suggest a coordinated down regulation of mito-chondrial genome-coded CytOX I and II and nuclear genome-codedCytOX IV andVbmRNAs during hypoxia.

The formation of properly differentiated organs often requires the planar coordination of cell polarization within the tissues. Such planar cell polar-ization (PCP) events are best studied in Drosophila, where many of the key players, known as PCP genes, have already been identified. Genetic analy-sis of the PCP genes suggests that the establishment of polarity consists of three major steps.

This is the second in a series of three papers in which we initiate the study of very rough solutions to the initial value problem for the Einstein vacuum equations expressed relative to wave coordinates. By very rough we mean solutions which cannot be constructed by the classical techniques of energy estimates and Sobolev inequalities. In this paper we develop the geometric analysis of the Eikonal equation for microlocalized rough Einstein metrics. This is a crucial step in the derivation of the decay estimates needed in the first paper. ...

Spheroidal wave functions are special functions in mathematical physics which have found many important and practical applications in science and engineering where the prolate or the oblate spheroidal coordinate system is used. In the evaluation of electromagnetic (EM) fields in spheroidal structures, spheroidal wave functions are frequently encountered, especially when boundary value problems in spheroidal structures are solved using full-wave analysis.
