  • Present study was undertaken to evaluate the anti-apoptotic effect of LEHD-FMK (caspase inhibitor) on buffalo bull sperm before and after semen freezing. Tris egg yolk extender was treated with Z-LEHD-FMK (0, 2, 4, 6, 10 and 20 µM) and used for extension of six aliquots of semen from each ejaculate to final concentration of 80 million sperm/ml.   • A Total 8 semen sample from four healthy Gir breeding bulls were collected at weekly interval for two weeks period using of artificial vagina method for evaluation of semen biochemical attributes at various stages of cryopreservation of Gir bull semen. The overall mean values for oxidative stress parameters viz. lipid peroxidation and glutathione reductase were 51.14 ± 0.18 μmol/ml and 32.24 ± 0.64 U/L, respectively in neat semen samples.

  • The present study was envisaged to assess the effect of different seasons on semen quality of crossbred bull semen. Frozen semen samples produced from Kerala Livestock Development Board was collected from three different seasons of Kerala. Semen collected from six crossbred bulls of same exotic inheritance was selected. Maximum temperature and relative humidity significantly varied between different seasons (p≤0.05). However, Temperature Humidity Index (THI) and minimum temperature did not vary between seasons.

  • The mean ± S.E. values of seminal attributes evaluated for assessing the quality of freshly ejaculated neat semen from four Hariana bulls has been estimated. In the present study mean ejaculate semen volume ranges between 3.35 ± 0.14 to 5.38 ± 0.20 ml. Semen mass motility (0-5 scale) ranges between 3.13 ± 0.08 to 3.69 ± 0.09. Sperm concentration varies significantly among the four Hariana bulls and ranges between 1633.50 ± 33.58 to 1806.25 ± 31.56 millions/ml. Present study indicated that the percent sperm progressive motility amongst four Hariana bulls range between 72.0 0 ± 1.21 to 78.
