  • Semen cryopreservation is a widely used technique across the world for conservation and proliferation of genetically superior germplasm through artificial insemination. Artificial insemination (AI) is the most conclusive tool to increase genetic improvement, control of venereal diseases and improve herd performance and productivity. For achieving the mission, successful and effective cryopreservation of semen is essential.

  • Present study was conducted to evaluate the anti-apoptotic effect of caspase inhibitor (ZIETD-FMK) supplementation in buffalo bull semen. The Z-IETD-FMK was supplemented with Tris egg yolk extender @ 2, 4, 6, 10 and 20 µM. The pre-freeze and post thaw samples were evaluated in terms of % individual motility, % viability, % HOS reactive sperms, status of mitochondrial membrane potential and status of sperm membrane phosphatidylserine. There was no significant effect (P>0.

  • The present study was envisaged to assess the effect of different seasons on semen quality of crossbred bull semen. Frozen semen samples produced from Kerala Livestock Development Board was collected from three different seasons of Kerala. Semen collected from six crossbred bulls of same exotic inheritance was selected. Maximum temperature and relative humidity significantly varied between different seasons (p≤0.05). However, Temperature Humidity Index (THI) and minimum temperature did not vary between seasons.

  • The objective of this review is to summarize and compare the work on effects of cooling rates and critical temperature range on post thaw semen quality of different animals. It could be concluded from the present review that optimum freezing protocol for buffalo bull, sheep, pig and stallion is not standardized, so far. However, till to some extent success has been achieved in cattle bulls.

  • In the last two decades, the discovery of signaling roles of ROS demonstrated their universal use in biological systems. The third section of this book, entitled “Reactive Species as Signaling Molecules” contains the chapters covering clear ROS-based signaling in yeasts and plants. It is not strange that many authors provide readers with the information gained from yeasts. This is a very popular classic eukaryotic model system to disclose molecular mechanisms of cellular responses to oxidative stress (Lushchak, 2010). In the first chapter of this book section, M. A. de la Torre-Ruiz et al..

This was groundbreaking because a film with such lurid subject matter (it is the tale of two serial killers) had never achieved this status before. The film could be described as a hybrid genre film mixing the police procedural/detective thriller genre with the horror movie.

  • Social determinants of health have a strong influence on a wide diversity of health endpoints. The same is valid for the field of environmental health, as the exposure to environmental risk factors is also unequally distributed, and this unequal distribution is often related to social characteristics such as income, social status, employment and education, but also non-economic aspects such as gender, age or ethnicity. However, depending on the environmental risk and the “risk group” considered, the magnitude of inequality varies largely.

  • The diversity of coverage experiences seems to indicate that there is no type of service that is per se more or better “insurable” by public or private coverage. There are nonetheless some trends towards greater reliance on public or subsidised private coverage for individuals facing higher health care cost, such as the elderly and those with chronic conditions, even where PHI plays a significant or primary role.

  • Most research on physical activity and colon cancer has focused on occupational physical activity in men. Clearly, men with sedentary jobs have increased risk of colon cancer (Sternfeld, 1992). One of the most comprehensive studies that included women was a case- control study of Utah residents that took into account differences in dietary patterns and body weight, confounding factors not usually controlled (Slattery et al., 1988).

  • In addition, Kaiser CDSMP participants had 0.2 fewer visits to the emergency room and 0.97 fewer hospital days compared to the year prior to completing the CDSMP. As a result, they reduced their health care costs. For example, if the average cost per day of hospitalization were $1,000 and the average cost of an emergency room visit were $100, the potential savings would be $990 per participant for the first year following completion of the program (0.97 days of hospitalization multiplied by $1,000 plus 0.2 emergency visits multiplied by $100).
