This paper shows basic features of different fuel assembly (FA) application for VVER-1000 in a closed fuel cycle based on REMIX-technology. This investigation shows how the change in the water–fuel ratio in the VVER FA affects on the fuel characteristics produced by REMIX technology during multiple recycling.

Light/dark modulation of the higher plant Calvin-cycle enzymes phosphoribulokinase (PRK) and NADP-depend-ent glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate dehydrogenase (NADP-GAPDH-A2B2) involves changes of their aggregation state inaddition to redox changes of regulatory cysteines.Herewe demonstrate that plants possess two different complexes containing the inactive forms (a) of NADP-GAPDH and PRK and (b) of only NADP-GAPDH, respectively, in darkened chloroplasts.

The currently accepted model of moult control in crusta-ceans relies entirely on the hypothesis that moult-inhibiting hormone (MIH) and crustacean hyperglycaemic hormone (CHH) repress ecdysteroid synthesis of the target tissue (Y-organ) only during intermoult, and that changes in syn-thesis and/or release of these neurohormones are central to moult control.

Cyclins are the essential regulatory subunits of cyclin-dependent protein kinases. They accumulate and disappear periodically at specific phases of the cell cycle. Here we investigated whether variations in cyclin mRNA levels in exponentially growing cells can be attributed to changes in mRNA stability. Mouse EL4 lymphoma cells and 3T3 fibroblasts were synchron-ized by elutriation or cell sorting.

A catalytic turnover of supercoiled DNA (scDNA) transformation medi-ated by topoisomerases leads to changes in the linking number (Lk) of the polymeric substrate by 1 or 2 per cycle. As a substrate of the topoisomeri-zation reaction it is chemically identical to its product; even a single catalytic event results in the quantum leap in the scDNA topology.

Plasma concentrations of free fatty acids are increased in metabolic syn-drome, and the increased fatty acids may cause cellular damage via the induction of oxidative stress. The present study was designed to determine whether the increase in fatty acids can modify the free sulfhydryl group in position 34 of albumin (Cys34) and enhance the redox-cycling activity of the copper–albumin complex in high-fat diet-induced obese mice.

We characterized the expression and functional properties of the ADP-sensitive P2Y1 and P2Y12 nucleotide receptors in glioma C6 cells cultured in medium devoid of serum for up to 96 h. During this long-term serum starvation, cell morphology changed from fibroblast-like flat to round, the adhesion pattern changed, cell-cycle arrest was induced,

DNA methylation is an important mechanism involved in embryogenesis and tumor development. Changing cytosines to 5-methylcytosines in CpG dinucleotides has been found to be responsible for the inactivation of tumor suppressor genes by repressing transcription.

The tumor suppressor p16 INK4a has functions beyond cell-cycle control via cyclin-dependent kinases. A coordinated remodeling ofN- and O-glycosyla-tion, and an increase in the presentation of the endogenous lectin galectin-1 sensing these changes on the surface of p16 INK4a -expressing pancreatic carcinoma cells (Capan-1), lead to potent pro-anoikis signals.

Expanders are an essential component of leadracid batteries. They prevent performance losses in negative plates that would otherwise be caused by passivation and structural changes in the active material. The functions of the components of modern negative-plate expanders are described and data are presented to show how the capacity and life of the battery are affected by the type and amount of barium sulfate and lignin incorporated in the expander blend.
