  • This paper presents a new approach to extract ground planes from a depth map which is provided by Kinect. The proposed system applies an robust algorithm to calculate the depth gradient maps (GDM) with high accuracy. Then the correct partition provides a set of candidates for the selection of ground. Last, it uses an efficient filter to find out the truth ground planes. The results prove the certainty of the algorithm in both cases consisting of the perfect data and actual scenes. For first case, the percentage of truth ground pixel detection R1 is common over 90%.

  • In this paper, we present the rapid method for determining the depth distribution of a sedimentary basin by combining the FFT-based and space domain techniques in gravity data interpretation. The method is tested on two 3D synthetic models which density contrast is constant and exponential variation with depth. Then, the method is applied to determine the depth distribution of Nam Con Son sedimentary basin in Vietnam. The obtained results coincide well with theoretical models and seismic data. The computation speed of the method is much faster than that of space domain technique.

  • WAM (WaveModeling) is a third generation wave model developed by WAMDI Group which describes the evolution of a two-dimensional ocean wave spectrum under the effects of winds, currents, bottom and non-linear wave-wave interactions. The model runs for deep and shallow waters and includes depth and current refraction. This study used the WAM cycle 4.5 with model domain which is covered from 990E to 1210E and 00N to 250N with a resolution of ∆X = ∆Y = 0.250 .

  • In this paper the authors present the error estimation in determining main parameters of earthquake hypocenter based on solving the system of linear equations, expressing the relationship between earthquake coordinates and the coordinates of the seismic stations. The results of the error estimation in determining the epicenter coordinates and the focus depth of the earthquakes recorded by the system of 30 seismic stations in Vietnam are presented, interpreted and compared with the results of the previous studies.

This study presents a method to evaluate the direct spatial damages of flooding based on inundation depth and land use data. Damage functions for different types of land use arc selected and applied.   • This approach is applied to constrain the magnitude of the maximum horizontal stress at some interest depths (3900 m, 4100 m, 4300 m and 4500 m) of the basement reservoirs at the White Tiger field, Cuu Long basin, Vietnam from the program STRESS POLYGON. The occurrence of DITFs and/or BOs proved to be useful in estimating stresses around the wellbore, especially the maximum horizontal stress magnitude.
