Twenty one genotypes including check Krishna were evaluated in randomized block design with three replications during kharif-2017 at research farm of TCA, Dholi for estimation of genetic variability among them. Genotypes varied significantly for all the morpho-physiological characters indicating the presence of considerable variability among the genotypes. Significant bidirectional shift was observed in the mean values as compared to better check, thus provided scope for selection.

We report the cloning and functional charaterization of the full-length cDNA and gene encoding a Toxoplasma gondii DNA repair enzyme designated TgDRE. The gene is composed of three exons separated by two introns of 780 and 630 bp, and encodes a protein with a predicted molecular mass of 49.6 kDa. The native TgDRE protein, with a molecular mass of 60 kDa, is only detected in the virulent tachyzoite stage of T. gondii. However, the transcript is present in both asexual parasite stages, virulent tachyzoite and avirulent encysted bradyzoite. ...

TheDrosophila melanogasterprotein sprouty is induced uponfibroblast growth factor (FGF)- andepidermal growth factor (EGF)-receptor tyrosine kinase activation and acts as an inhibitor of the ras/MAP kinase pathway downstreamof these receptors. By differential displayRT-PCRof activated vs. resting umbilical artery smooth muscle cells (SMCs) we detected a new human sprouty gene, which we designated human sprouty 4 (hspry4) based on its homology with murine sprouty 4.

The primary purpose of the present study was to investi-gate whether DNA replication at meiotic prophase also requires replication factors, especially proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA). We cloned PCNA cDNAs (CoPCNA) from a cDNA library made from basidia of the basidiomycete,Coprinus cinereus. Interestingly, although CoPCNAis a single-copy gene in the genome, two dier-entPCNAcDNA species were isolated using degenerate primers and a meiotic cDNA library, and were designated asCoPCNA-aandCoPCNA-b. ...

important regulators of biological processes in animals and plants. MiRNAs regulate gene expression at the posttranscriptional level by binding to mRNAs and either inhibit translation or modify the stability of the mRNA. Due to the important biological role of miRNAs it is of great interest to study their expression level in the cells. Furthermore, miRNAs have been associated with cancer and other diseases [1] and miRNA expression can help in the diagnosis and prognostic of human disease [2,3].

Populations in Southeast AsiaandSouthChinahave highfrequencies ofa-thalassemia caused by a-globin gene mutations and/or deletions. This study was designed to find an efficient and simple diagnostic test for the mutations and deletions. A duplex polymerase chain reaction (PCR)/denaturing high-pressure liquid chromatography (DHPLC) was used to detect the mutations and deletions. A blinded study of 110 samples, which included 92 a-thalassemia samples with various genotypes and 18 normal DNA samples, was carried out by the methods.

Special oligonucleotides for targeted gene correction have attracted increasing attention recently, one of which is the chimericRNAÆDNAoligonucleotide (RDO) system. RDOs for targeted gene correction were first designed in 1996, and are typically 68 nucleotides in length including continuous RNA andDNA sequences (RNA is 2¢-O-methyl-modified).

Theb-amyloid peptide (Ab) is a major component of toxic amyloid plaques found in the brains of patients with Alzheimer’s disease.Abis liberated by sequential cleavage of amyloid precursor protein (APP) byb-andc-secre-tases.The level of Abdepends directly on the hydrolytic activity ofb-secretase.Therefore, b-secretase is an excel-lent target for drug design. An approach based on RNA-cleaving ribozymes was developed to control expression ofb-secretase.

The cysteine-rich peptide hepcidin is known to be an antimicrobial peptide and iron transport regulator that has been found in both fish and mam-mals. Recently, we found two different types (designated Hep-JF1 and Hep-JF2) of hepcidin cDNA in the Japanese flounder,Paralichthys oliva-ceus, by expressed sequence tag analysis. The identity of amino acid sequences between Hep-JF1 and Hep-JF2 was 51%. The Hep-JF1 and Hep-JF2 genes both consist of three exons and two introns, and both exist as single copies in the genome. ...

We describe a strategy for systematic amplification of chitin synthase genes (chs) in the filamentous ascomycetes plant-pathogenBotrytis cinereausing PCR with multiple degen-erate primers designed on specific and conserved sequence motifs. Eight distinctchsgeneswere isolated, namedBcchs I, II, IIIa, IIIb, IV, V, VIandVII. They probably constitute the entire chsmultigenic family of this fungus, as revealed by careful analysis of six euascomycetes genomes.

The spontaneous acquisition of resistance to a variety of unrelated cytotoxic compounds has important implications in medical treatment of infectious diseases and anticancer therapy. In the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiaethis pheno-menon is caused by overexpression of membrane efflux pumps and is called pleiotropic drug resistance. We have found that allelic forms of the genes for the transcription activators Pdr1p and Pdr3p, designated PDR1-12and PDR3-33,respectively, mediate resistance to diazaborine....

Teleost fishes differ from mammals in their fat deposition and distribution. The gene for adipocyte-type fatty acid-binding protein (A-FABP or FABP4) has not been identified thus far in fishes. We have determined the cDNA sequence and defined the structure of a fatty acid-binding protein gene (designated fabp4) from the zebrafish genome.

In this study, we cloned two similar protein disulfide isomerase family genes from soybean leaf (Glycine maxL. Merrill cv. In vascular smooth muscle cells and several other cell types, inhibition of Na + ⁄K + -ATPase leads to the expression of early response genes, including c-Fos. We designed this study to examine whether or not a putative Na + i ⁄K + i-sensitive element is located within the c-Fos5¢-UTR from )650 to +103 containing all known response elements activated by ‘classic’ stimuli, such as growth factors and Ca 2+ i-raising compounds.

2C-Methyl-d-erythritol-4-phosphate synthase, encoded by the ispC gene (also designated dxr), catalyzes the first committed step in the nonmevalo-nate isoprenoid biosynthetic pathway. The reaction involves the isomeriza-tion of 1-deoxy-d-xylulose 5-phosphate, giving a branched-chain aldose derivative that is subsequently reduced to 2C-methyl-d-erythritol 4-phos-phate.
