  • The Hedgehog (Hh) signaling pathway, acting through three homologous transcription factors (GLI1, GLI2, GLI3) in vertebrates, plays multiple roles in embryonic organ development and adult tissue homeostasis. At the level of the genome, GLI factors bind to specific motifs in enhancers, some of which are hundreds of kilobases removed from the gene promoter.

  • In this paper, dynamic stiffness model of a cracked frame structure that represents a planar tower crane is established in an explicit form based on general solution of cracked 2Dbeam element vibration. The crack is modeled by a pair of equivalent springs of stiffness calculated from the crack depth. An explicit form of frequency equation is first established and then solved for numerical sensitivity analysis of natural frequencies of the structure to cracks. An experimental study is accomplished to validate the theoretical development.

  • The newest waste management technology is bioconversion using fly larvae converting organic waste to insect larval biomass and organic residue. Bioconversion is a practice of recovering resources while simultaneously limiting the amount of organic material affecting landfill behaviour. Several organisms have been used in this treatment process. Several studies have been done using the black soldier fly larvae to degrade organic material.

  • Drug–polymer miscibility is one of the fundamental prerequisite for the successful design and development of amorphous solid dispersion formulation. The purpose of the present work is to provide an example of the theoretical estimation of drug–polymer miscibility and solubility on the basis of Flory– Huggins (F–H) theory and experimental validation of the phase diagram.

  • Milk testing for quality assurance is an essential component of any milk processing industry. Pricing of milk is mainly based on the percentage level of fat and solids-not-fat (SNF) contents. Different types of lactometers and different formulae are in use for estimating SNF and TS percentage. Gravimetric method is the standard and accurate method for estimation of SNF. However, this method is time consuming and demands a better analytical skill. Therefore, this study was undertaken to develop a suitable formulae and validation of the same.

  • As currently taught, the introductory course in analytical chemistry emphasizes quantitative (and sometimes qualitative) methods of analysis coupled with a heavy dose of equilibrium chemistry. Analytical chemistry, however, is more than equilib- rium chemistry and a collection of analytical methods; it is an approach to solving chemical problems. Although discussing different methods is important, that dis- cussion should not come at the expense of other equally important topics.

  • Biomarkers in development by EDRN address common malignancies as well as mesothelioma and hepatocellular cancer. The latter are of major worldwide importance and are increasing in incidence in the United States. EDRN Collaborative Groups, focused on breast and gynecologic cancers, gastrointestinal and other associated cancers, lung and upper aerodigestive cancers and prostate and urologic cancers, each have biomarkers in prevalidation and validation phases in which the accuracy of experimental results is confirmed.

  • (BQ) This paper presents an investigation of the effects of machining variables on the surface roughness of wire-EDMed DC53 die steel. In this study, the machining variables investigated were pulse-peak current, pulse-on time, pulse-off time, and wire tension. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) technique was used to find out the variables affecting the surface roughness. Assumptions of ANOVA were discussed and carefully examined using analysis of residuals. Quantitative testing methods on residual analysis were used in place of the typical qualitative testing techniques.

  • Fused deposition modelling (FDM) is gaining distinct advantage in manufacturing industries because of its ability to manufacture parts with complex shapes without any tooling requirement and human interface. The properties of FDM built parts exhibit high dependence on process parameters and can be improved by setting parameters at suitable levels. Anisotropic and brittle nature of build part makes it important to study the effect of process parameters to the resistance to compressive loading for enhancing service life of functional parts.

  • Measurements of the isotopic contents of spent nuclear fuel provide experimental data that are a prerequisite for validating computer codes and nuclear data for many spent fuel applications. Under the auspices of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Nuclear Energy Agency (NEA) and guidance of the Expert Group on Assay Data of Spent Nuclear Fuel of the NEA Working Party on Nuclear Criticality Safety, a new database of expanded spent fuel isotopic compositions has been compiled.

  • A simple microextraction method based on solidification of a floating organic drop (SFOD) was developed for preconcentration of lead prior to its determination by electrothermal atomic absorption spectrometry (ETAAS). Ammonium pyrolidinedithiocarbamate (APDC) was used as complexing agent, and the formed complex was extracted into a 20 lL of 1-undecanol. The extracted complex was diluted with ethanol and injected into a graphite furnace.

  • In conventional diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) based on magnetic resonance data, each voxel is assumed to contain a single component having diffusion properties that can be fully represented by a single tensor. Even though this assumption can be valid in some cases, the general case involves the mixing of components, resulting in significant deviation from the single tensor model. Hence, a strategy that allows the decomposition of data based on a mixture model has the potential of enhancing the diagnostic value of DTI.

  • miRNA (microRNA) are short RNA molecules in length from 20 to 24 nucleotides that have been shown to play an important role in regulating gene expression in many different types of human cancer. Meanwhile, miRNA-214 is one of the known miRNAs involved in the formation of nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) through overexpression that promotes proliferation and development of cancer cells. However, in Vietnam, the study of miR-214 related to NPC has not been conducted yet.

  • Evaporative cooling system is one of the cooling techniques, but the limitation is that cooling can be done up to wet bulb temperature only, so a study has been taken up to design, develop a two-stage evaporative cooling system. Cooling performance of twostage indirect/direct evaporative cooling system was experimentally investigated. For this purpose, a two-stage evaporative cooling experimental setup consisting of an indirect cooling stage (IDC) followed by a direct evaporative cooling stage (DEC) was designed, constructed and tested.
