  • Parts of the experiment are conducted with the L9 orthogonal array based on the Taguchi methodology and significant process parameters are identified using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). It is found that MRR is affected by gap current & Ra is affected by pulse on time. Moreover, the signal-to-noise ratios associated with the observed values in the experiments are determined by which factor is most affected by the responses of MRR, Ra and OC.

  • The results indicated that in order to obtain a high value of MRR within the work interval of this study, Ton should be fixed as low as possible, and conversely, the larger the selected I and U. And the optimal value of MRR was 139.126 mg/min at optimal process parameters I = 10 A, U = 90 V and Ton = 100 s. The mathematical model for the MRR can be effectively employed for the optimal process parameters selection in diesinking EDM for SKD11 die steel. Empirical tests show that the model can calculate quite accurately predicted by MRR (error  0.6%).

  • This is accepted according to practical experience and the lack of scientific basis because of limited research on the surface layer quality of the products after EDM and the study is focused on the evaluation of the product quality in the final processing. This study is aimed at the investigation of performance and structure of the surface layer in hot-forging die following die-sinking EDM.

  • (BQ) This paper reports an intelligent approach for process modeling and optimization of electric discharge machining (EDM). Physics based process modeling using finite element method (FEM) has been integrated with the soft computing techniques like artificial neural networks (ANN) and genetic algorithm (GA) to improve prediction accuracy of the model with less dependency on the experimental data.

  • (BQ) The adequate selection of manufacturing conditions is one of the most important aspects to take into consideration in the die-sinking electrical discharge machining (EDM) of conductive ceramics, as these conditions are the ones that are to determine such important characteristics as: surface roughness, electrode wear (EW) and material removal rate, among others. In this work, a study was carried out on the influence of the factors of intensity (I), pulse time (ti) and duty cycle (η) over the listed technological characteristics.

  • (BQ) The present work deals with the comparison of the MRR for EN19 and EN41 material in a die sinking EDM machine. The various input factors like Pulse ON time, Pulse OFF time, Discharge current and voltage were considered as the input processing parameters, while the MRR is considered as the output. Optimization using Taguchi method was performed to predict the best combination of inputs towards maximum output.

  • (BQ) ilicon infiltrated silicon carbide (SiSiC) is developed. The influences of the major operating EDM parameters (discharge current ie, open gap voltage ui, discharge duration te and pulse interval to) of the iso energetic generator on the machining performances like Material Removal Rate (MRR), Tool Wear Ratio (TWR) and surface roughness (Ra) are examined. Relaxation pulses which have lower energy input are also considered to improve the surface quality.
