  • Chapter 4, Drug orders. This chapter begins with the seven rights of medication administration, abbreviations, and controlled substances. This chapter shows the various ways in which drug orders may be written and how to interpret physicians’ orders and prescriptions. It emphasizes safety and shows how drug orders and prescriptions can easily be misread, giving added detail to detecting errors and forged or altered prescriptions.

  • Drug Administration be very precise. (Standardized medicinal teaspoons and tablespoons are available.) Eye drops and nose drops (A) are designed for application to the mucosal surfaces of the eye (conjunctival sac) and nasal cavity, respectively. In order to prolong contact time, nasal drops are formulated as solutions of increased viscosity. Solid dosage forms include tablets, coated tablets, and capsules (B). Tablets have a disk-like shape, produced by mechanical compression of active substance, filler (e.g., lactose, calcium sulfate), binder, and auxiliary material (excipients).

  • Drugs for the Suppression of Pain (Analgesics) ing, or burning character, i.e., pain that can be localized only poorly. Impulse traffic in the neo- and paleospinothalamic pathways is subject to modulation by descending projections that originate from the reticular formation and terminate at second-order neurons, at their synapses with first-order neurons, or at spinal segmental interneurons (descending antinociceptive system).

  • Prescription and over-the-counter drugs help millions of people with devastat-ing diseases and chronic conditions. But in the process, these medications can also deplete the body’s natural stores of vitamins, minerals, and hormones—the very nutrients you need to keep energy levels high, fend off infections, and be healthy. Pharmacist Suzy Cohen calls these medications “drug muggers,” and she says it’s essential to replenish what a drug mugger steals from your body in order to feel your best and avoid side effects.

  • Discovery of a new chemical entity that exerts pharmacological effects for curing or treating diseases or relieving symptoms is only the first step in the drug developmental process. In the developmental cycle of a new drug, the delivery of a desired amount of a therapeutic agent to the target at a specific time or duration is as important as its discovery. In order to realize the optimal therapeutic outcomes, a delivery system should be designed to achieve the optimal drug concentration at a predetermined rate and at the desired location....

  • At the start of the Revolution, the Colonies were cut off from the source of their usual drug supply, England. A few drugs trickled through from the West Indies, but by 1776 there was an acute shortage. Lack of coordination and transportation resulted in a scarcity of drugs for the army hospitals even while druggists in other areas resorted to advertising in order to sell their stocks. Some relief came from British prize ships captured by the American navy and privateers, but the chaotic condition of drug supply was not eased until the alliance with France early in 1778....

  • The overuse of medicines has frequently occurred at health facilities in Vietnam. Many factors affect prescription. This study was carried out to investigate the patterns of outpatient prescription and factors related to prescription of doctors. Subjects and method: Cross-sectional study with a total of 300 outpatient drug prescriptions and 30 questionnaires of physicians were conducted at Phongdien Medical Center, Cantho city during the period of 2017 - 2018. Results: The average number of drugs in each prescription was 5.8, with 35.6% of antibiotics, 31.7% of corticosteroid and 36.

  • The present work reports preparation of irbesartan (IBS) loaded nanofibre mats using electrospinning technique. The prepared nanofibres were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, differential scanning calorimetry, X-ray diffraction analysis, in vitro diffusion and ex vivo skin permeation studies. FTIR studies revealed chemical compatibility of IBS and polyvinyl pyrrolidine (PVP K-30). SEM images confirmed formation of nanofibres wherein IBS existed in amorphous form as revealed by DSC and XRD analyses.

  • In this paper, we presented a novel multi-strain TB model of variable-order fractional derivatives, which incorporates three strains: drug-sensitive, emerging multi-drug resistant (MDR) and extensively drug-resistant (XDR), as an extension for multi-strain TB model of nonlinear ordinary differential equations which developed in 2014 by Arino and Soliman [1]. Numerical simulations for this variable-order fractional model are the main aim of this work, where the variable-order fractional derivative is defined in the sense of Gru¨nwald–Letnikov definition.

  • Mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSNs) have attracted significant attention from researchers thanks to their high surface area and pore volume, which can increase drug loading capacity. Moreover, MSNs, with their biocompatibility and ease of surface functionalization, are seen as potential drug delivery system. However, the loading of drug into MSNs system still needs further improvement. In this study, hollow mesoporous silica nanoparticles (HMSNs) were fabricated in order to increase the drug loading capacity of nanosilica materials.

  • Adherence to antiretroviral drugs in the treatment of paediatric HIV infection is complicated because of many factors including stigma and drug intake logistics. It is therefore important to identify children with non-adherence in order to intervene before they become at risk of developing treatment failure or drug resistance.

  • Pharmacological treatment of complex diseases using more than two drugs is commonplace in the clinic due to better efficacy, decreased toxicity and reduced risk for developing resistance. However, many of these higher-order treatments have not undergone any detailed preceding in vitro evaluation that could support their therapeutic potential and reveal disease related insights.

  • In order to better understand the clinical manifestations and neuroimaging data of those dissociative disorders, which have as hallmark inability to recall personal past events, we will briefly review the current classifications of the long-term memory systems. Two overlapping classifications currently dominate the memory research literature – the one that was initiated by Larry Squire and the one that was advanced by Endel Tulving. In Squire’s classification, a main distinction is made between declarative and non-declarative memory.
