  • In this paper, we estimate coseismic displacements in Vietnam caused by the 2004 Sumatra and the 2011 Tohoku earthquakes using static fault models in a layered spherical earth model. We find that the 2004 Sumatra earthquake caused southwestward movement of about 56 mm in Southern Vietnam and gradually decreasing to the north.

  • This paper presents a wavelet spectrum technique for monitoring a sudden crack of a beam-like bridge structure during earthquake excitation. When there is a sudden crack caused by earthquake excitation the stiffness of the structure is changed leading to a sudden change in natural frequencies during vibration.

  • In this paper the authors present the error estimation in determining main parameters of earthquake hypocenter based on solving the system of linear equations, expressing the relationship between earthquake coordinates and the coordinates of the seismic stations. The results of the error estimation in determining the epicenter coordinates and the focus depth of the earthquakes recorded by the system of 30 seismic stations in Vietnam are presented, interpreted and compared with the results of the previous studies.

  • The processing results show that the common displacement direction is close to south-southwest with the largest value being approximately 2 m and the affected area being about 160 km in the southeast direction centered around the earthquake epicenter.   • This is the first time the LPI based method was applied for evaluation of earthquake-induced liquefaction for Hanoi city. The most advantage of the method is that it can be easy to use, although the reliability of the results depends very much on number and distribution of the borehole data. Nevertheless, the combination of this method with other available methods can help effectively solving the problem of urban seismic risk assessment for the mega-cities in Vietnam.

  • This paper describes the development of a Decision support system (DSS) for earthquake warning service in Vietnam using Web GIS technology. The system consists of two main components: (1) an on-line database of earthquakes recorded from the national seismic network of Vietnam, and (2) a set of tools for rapid seismic hazard assessment. Using an on-line earthquake database, the system allows creating a shake map caused by a newly recorded earthquake.
