  • The delayed response to economic shocks or to changes in monetary policy which characterize the ináation expectations and the interest rate dynamics is also explained by the existence of this asymmetric information set between private agents and monetary authorities. Hence, Huh and Lansing (2000) and Erceg and Levin (2001) are two models which demonstrate how an ináation scare problem could produce a sharp increase of long-term interest rates, as for the Volcker disináation period of the early 1980s and the 1987 ináation scare episode.

  • A purchaser should assess the environmental risks associated with a property being purchased. In Canada, government o"cials do not “certify” that a property is free from such risks. A property’s environmental status can be ascertained by inspecting applicable company and public records. In virtually all cases, a purchaser will want to do an “environmental audit” of the property which may include conducting scienti!c testing and a technical analysis of the property. Lending institutions often require such an audit before advancing any funds.

  • However, the problem of personal ties and political factors influencing the loan decision does not mean that financial institutions necessarily need to be privately operated as has long been argued by the Bretton Woods institutions (i.e. World Bank 2001). Historical experience in a number of countries such as Chile (in the deregulation attempt of the 1980s) or in Indonesia (in the 1990s) show that a privatized banking sector does not necessarily allocate loans according to economic merit of the borrower.

  • For most countries, data on GDP were not available before 1914, and therefore, proxy variables, such as Gross National Product (GNP) or Net National Product (NNP), were used for computing debt ratios in the earlier years. From 1914 through 1980, GDP data for most countries were mainly sourced from Mitchell (2003). 7 Government publications were also used for collecting GDP data for some countries, including Canada, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

  • Mutagenesis is a powerful method directed towards mutating genes or engineering genome for functional analysis, producing mouse models of human disease, and understanding molecular mechanism of biodiversity at different levels of biological organizations. Several insights have been revealed through studies using experimental models, or in silico, on natural mutations in general and site-specific mutagenesis in particular. However, unified text on recent trends in mutagenesis is poorly available within a single cover.

Although this was a small percentage of those contacted, most of these respondents did not meet the criteria. Either their IELTS result was obtained before 1 July 2007 or they had satisfied the university English language proficiency requirements through other means, for example, a pathway program that issued certificates deemed to be ‘at an equivalent level as IELTS 6.5’.

Because advertising of the fund and any other non-personal communications are prohibited, and the media has touted the risks over the benefits, investors must be sought in more direct and creative ways. A trader may find that in addition to family and close friends, many colleagues and casual acquaintances may be potential investors.

  • The debate is also reflected in the efforts to reform the regulatory environment in response to the current financial crisis. Brunnermeier et al. (2008) also conceptually distinguish between a regulatory and a market based notion of bank capital. When examining the roots of the crisis, Greenlaw et al. (2008) argue that banks’ active management of their capital structures in relation to internal value at risk, rather than regulatory constraints, was a key destabilising factor.

  • Preliminary analysis of the data reveals some noteworthy similarities and differences between Chile and the other countries considered. Over this sample period, Chilean interest rates are on average higher, more volatile, and less persistent than the interest rates for the other countries. However, in Chile, the degree of co-movement between retail bank interest rates and the money market rate is essentially the same as in other countries. These “stylized facts” are highlighted in Tables 2 through 5, which report summary statistics for the interest series of all countries considered.

  • We will explore Zen and the individual project management elements such as risk, communications, people management, and estimating. These, however, are never found independently in real world projects. Risk is an integral part of estimating and scheduling. Cost and time have a complex relationship with each other and with the quality of re- sults and resources. Communication is a critical enabler for everything we do. Process management and performance improvement are fully integrated with performance itself. What we do today influences what we do tomorrow and how we do it.

  • It is necessary to understand that such portrayals find rationale in the power structures that govern Indian society. These power structures do not impart any agency to women. The inclination to portray women as ideal stems from the social and cultural context in which we reside. The pre-occupation with the ideal is what defines the goals of Hindi cinema. This ideal allows for only two types of women characters – the good who is to be idealized and the bad who is to be demonized. Most films still cannot sum up the courage to shatter myths of feminine beauty...

  • We believe that two fundamental developments afforded researchers a third chance to consolidate the field of neuroaesthet- ics around the turn of the millennium. First, the notion of a single special mechanism underlying aesthetic experiences has been dropped in favor of the view that aesthetic appreciation and re- lated phenomena rely on several general mechanisms, including processes of perception, memory, attention, decision-making, and reward and emotion (Chatterjee, 2004a; Leder, Belke, Oeberst, & Augustin, 2004).

It explores the production possibility set of the investment funds to identify an appropriate form of returns to scale. It discusses what risk and return measures can justifiably be combined and how to deal with negative risks, and identifies suitable sets of measures. It identifies the problems of failing to deal with diversification and develops an iterative approximation procedure to deal with it.
