It depicts 56 children dancing or jumping, but the shadows cast by the light give the impression of many more. Raimo Veranen has almost made the motif of children his own trademark over the years. “In the early 1980s, my wife was expecting a baby and was scanned. • Animals fed on concentrate-rich diets ( 60%), may go off-feed due to ruminal acidosis. A low pH is detrimental to the rumen fibre digesting bacteria which may cause a depression in fat content in the milk. It can also affect the animal’s health status. In such cases, use of a buffer is rec- ommended comprising sodium bi-carbonate and magnesium oxide (3:1) to be fed @ 50–75 g per animal per day. Alternatively it is possible to introduce some longer physical fibre into the ration (e.g. paddy straw) to promote rumination and saliva production.

  • Women's involvement in the formal sector has mainly been urban-based, as civil servants in the health and education sectors, where they had a sizeable presence before the conflict. This was severely disrupted by the strong restrictions on female employment during the Taliban period. Currently, close to one-third of all teachers are female, while an estimated 40% of all basic health facilities lack female staff, a clear constraint to delivering basic services (health, in particular) to women.

This apparently is the result of lower past fertility levels of current Phnom Penh elderly rather than higher losses of children through mortality. In fact, respondents in Phnom Penh report fewer deaths of their children than do those in the provinces (results not shown). Older elders average somewhat smaller numbers of surviving children than younger elders.

  • In recent years, although slowly, steps have been taken towards a greater liberalisation of the agricultural markets. However, agriculture still accounts for 66% of the protectionism in the trade for goods and services today. This explains, at least in part, its small impact on international trade, since it only represents 4% of the gross world product (World Bank, 2006). For EU member countries, agricultural protectionism derives from the CAP (Common Agricultural Policy).
