Emergency planning
-
Emergency Planning is a critical component of every facility’s mission to provide a safe environment for its residents, staff, patrons and visitors. The key to successful emergency response lies in the details of preparedness. Generic (one-size fits all) guidelines for emergency response are insufficient. Our safety in an emergency depends on the careful, detailed planning and training that goes on well before an emergency occurs and that is specific to each facility.

Water utilities have a long history of planning in preparation for emergencies, particularly natural disasters. But contingency and emergency planning has taken on a new dimension with current concern about potential threats to water system security. The range of crises that have become plausible has expanded, and utilities now are considering more robust security procedures and emergency plans than they have historically had in place. When it comes to ensuring a water system’s security, few utilities, regardless of size or geographic location, can function independently.

For nearly 20 years, since the emergence of PCs, Lotus 1-2-3, and Microsoft Excel in the 1980’s, spreadsheet models have been the dominant vehicles for finance professionals in the business world to implement their financial knowledge. Yet even today, most Corporate Finance textbooks rely on calculators as the primary tool and have little (if any) coverage of how to build spreadsheet models. This book fills that gap. It teaches students how to build financial models in Excel.

This book chronicles the exploits of Brad—a fictional character who’s been thrust into the wonderful world of project management. Just like many project management professionals I’ve met in my many years in the field, he was drawn into the battle reluctantly, but he emerged wanting more. And as you will soon discover, project management is actually a curious combination of art and science. The artistry refers to the leadership part of the role, or the people component.

Over the past 20 years a microfinance industry has emerged in response to the lack of access to formal financial services for most of the world’s poor. Microfinance institutions serve an ever-increasing number of poor clients, but the demand for such financial services still far outstrips their capacity. To meet this demand, most microfinance institutions plan to increase their outreach. But rapid growth strains an institution’s systems and changes its financial dynamics.

The advantages and limitations of conventional structural MRI for the diagnosis and monitoring of MS are discussed by Andreadou (Chapter 15). Though postcolonialism has emerged as one of the most significant theoretical movements in literary and cultural studies, scant attention has been paid to the importance of trade and trade relations to debates about culture. Focusing on the past two centuries, this volume investigates the links among trade, colonialism, and forms of representation, posing the question, 'What is the historical or modern relationship between economic inequality and imperial patterns of representation and reading?

The hydraulic system consists of an oil sump, one or two oil pumps, an air over oil accumulator tank, and piping to the servomotors. Typically, there are two pumps with lead and lag controls so that there is always a backup pump. Some systems will share two pumps between two units so that in an emergency one pump could be used for both units. The accumulator tank is usually sized so that in the event the pumps fail, the gates can still be closed. The size of the valve required to control the large amount of oil...

In spite of the limited evidence about the behaviour of mutual funds in emerging markets, mutual fund investment in these areas has grown markedly over the past decade at a quicker pace than even the developed markets have shown. The growth in mutual fund investment is influential because it shapes the future development in the securities market and has important policy implications. The high proportion of institutional investors creates more timely information and therefore makes the market more efficient.
