We present a strategy for the acquisition and assessment of autonomous learning conducted as part of the Graphic Expression in Engineering (GE) degree course during the first quarter at the Escola Universitària d’Enginyeria Tècnica Industrial de Barcelona (EUETIB). The strategy employed is the puzzle technique in the classroom and multiple-choice questionnaires on the virtual campus. The results show that this strategy enables the continuous acquisition of the learning objectives for the subject.

The frst years in engineering degree courses are usually made of large groups with a low teacher-student rato. Overcrowding in classrooms hinders contnuous assessment much needed to promote independent learning. Therefore, there is a need to apply some kind of automatc evaluaton to facilitate the correcton of exercises outside the classroom.

Building engineering physics, along with other aspects of building science, is taught as a minor part of a limited number of engineering degree courses in the United Kingdom. In other parts of the world building science is afforded greater significance in both education and industry. It is apparent that countries such as the Netherlands, with well established university teaching and research in building sciences, lead the UK in terms of delivering low carbon buildings.

The study aims to explore the learning experiences of Vietnamese master students in the field of engineering at a Taiwan university to offer a well-known perception of learning experiences for Vietnamese prospective engineering students who look for foreign degrees in non-English-speaking Asian countries like Taiwan. Interviews with 14 master students were undertaken. The findings reveal that the Vietnamese students experience with 3 types of language-related problems in Taiwan: English language proficiency, lack of English medium of instruction from the host, and Chinese language issues.

The paper is concerned with methodological problems of search of new ways of reformation for space engineering education. The problems of renewal of the content of course units and educational forms are of special relevance in the field of education of specialists in design of small and ultra small spacecrafts. Renewal of educational forms is frequently associated with the choice between the pragmatic and ontological approaches in education.

In writing this book the author has been primarily concerned with the presentation of the basic essentials of power-system operation and analysis to students in the final year of first degree courses at universities and colleges of technology. The emphasis is on the consideration of the system as a whole rather than on the engineering details of its constituents, and the treatment presented is aimed at practical conditions and situations rather than theoretical nicety.

This book is based onmy notes fromlectures to students of electrical, elec- tronic, and computer engineering at South Bank University. It presents a first year degree/diploma course in engineering mathematics with an emphasis on important concepts, such as algebraic structure, symme- tries, linearity, and inverse problems, clearly presented in an accessible style. It encompasses the requirements, not only of students with a good maths grounding, but also of those who, with enthusiasm and motiva- tion, can make up the necessary knowledge.

Undergraduate biomedical engineering programs and curricula are being rapidly developed across the United States. We perceive a correspondingly increasing need for biomedical engineering textbooks specifically designed for undergraduate readers. Many educators have come to appreciate that physiology and biology are not narrow, specialized applications to be ‘‘tacked onto’’ an engineering curriculum, but are instead rich subjects that can naturally elicit and benefit from the kinds of creative problem-solving and quantitative analyses that are hallmarks of engineering.

FOR THE PAST SEVERAL DECADES instructors in the field of educational technology have focused on training instructional designers. A quick survey of graduate programs in this area indicates that the majority of the classes are geared toward instructional design from the viewpoint of learning psychology or from the viewpoint of using multimedia tools for the latest technological advances. Courses have emphasized a systematic approach to the development of instructional products usually consisting of various approaches to analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation.

This book is partly based on lectures I gave at NUI Galway and Trinity College Dublin between 1998 and 2000. It is by no means a comprehensive guide to all the mathematics an engineer might encounter during the course of his or her degree. The aim is more to highlight and explain some areas commonly found difficult, such as calculus, and to ease the transition from school level to university level mathematics, where sometimes the subject matter is similar, but the emphasis is usually different.

In the United States, most undergraduate mechanical engineering programs are accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) to ensure similar course requirements and standards among universities. The ABET web site lists 276 accredited mechanical engineering programs as of June 19, 2006.[10] Mechanical engineering programs in Canada are accredited by the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board (CEAB),[11] and most other countries offering engineering degrees have similar accreditation societies....
