Predicting the macroscopic permeability of porous media is critical in various scientific and engineering applications. This study proposes a novel model that combines Random Forest (RF) and rime-ice (RIME) optimization algorithm, denoted RIME-RF-RIME, to predict permeability based on six key features covering fluid phase dimensions, geometric characteristics, surrounding phase permeability, and media porosity.

A damage diagnosis method for trusses based on incomplete free vibration properties utilizing ensemble learning, e.g. Extreme gradient boosting (XGBoost), is presented in this work. Owing to the lack of measurement sensors, modal features are only measured at master degrees of freedom (DOFs) of a few first models instead of all DOFs of a structural system.

It is a commonly held view within the computer graphics community that 3D animation software is ―just another tool‖ for self-expression. This research questions that view by examining the inherent nature of the tool itself. In doing so, some of the philosophical assumptions embedded in the design of the new digital tool are revealed.

This thesis attempts to address the problem of how best to remedy different types of channel distortions on speech when that speech is to be used in automatic speaker recognition and verification systems. Automatic speaker recognition is when a person's voice is analysed by a machine and the person's identity is worked out by the comparison of speech features to a known set of speech features. Automatic speaker verification is when a person claims an identity and the machine determines if that claimed identity is correct or whether that person is an impostor.

The current research is undertaken by performing Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations for a 2D aerofoil fitted with a shock control bump at a transonic flow condition. Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes equation coupled with turbulence models is adopted to solve the flowfield. The bump has a conventional geometric feature which consists of a ramp, a crest and a tail, and it has eight variants for which the designed parameters are reasonably specified according to the compressible aerodynamics theory.

The results also elucidated that the gravimetric hydrogen uptakes depend on the special surface area and pore volume of the MIL-88s.
