This thesis is the result of research into the different generations at work in an engineering consulting organisation in Victoria. The investigation was designed to research generational differences in values, attitudes and behaviours and their implications for management. This included a debate on whether the differences are generational or a consequence of age or stage-of-life.

In particular it focuses on changing trends and influences in the workplace and how different generations view and deal with these changes. The study focuses on Baby Boomers (born 1945-1963), Generation X (born 1964-1977) and Generation Y (born 1978 - 1994) across four industry sectors: Corporate, Education, Government and Not for Profit.

The central objective of the thesis "An economic analysis of the Australian Baby Bonus" is to examine the nature of the fertility response of Australian families to the financial incentive of the Baby Bonus. The efficacy of the policy in determining a change in both fertility and the timing of births is assessed by exploring the time series properties of national and Victorian fertility measures, while controlling for other possible determinants of fertility choice.

Medium-chain acyl-CoA dehydrogenase (MCAD) is a homotetrameric flavoprotein which catalyses the initial step of theb-oxidationofmedium-chain fattyacids.Mutations in MCAD may cause disease in humans. A Y42H mutation is frequently found in babies identified by newborn screening with MS/MS, yet there are no reports of patients presenting clinically with this mutation.
