  • The purpose of this paper is twofold. The first aim is to present briefly game theory and to illustrate the relationship between game theory and linear programming. The other aim is to apply game theory to field crops. The game theory model was used for main field crops, namely wheat, barley, maize, chickpea, sesame, cotton and groundnut, in Antalya province in Turkey.

  • Moringa oleifera is a miracle tree that can be used in multiple ways, including as foodstuff, livestock fodder, a plant growth enhancer, or a water purifier. While the stem cutting method is easy and successful for tree propagation, the recent introduction of moringa as a field crop for biomass production requires propagation through seeds.

  • Poor crop stand and high weed infestation are the major constraints of direct seeded rice. Seed priming has the potential to improve the seedling emergence and crop stand. This study was conducted to evaluate the on-farm assessment of direct seeded rice by employing different priming techniques such as on-farm priming, hydropriming, hardening, and osmohardening with CaCl2 and KCl.

  • Field pea (Pisum sativum L.) has the potential to be a suitable companion crop for the establishment of red clover (Trifolium pratense L.), as it is fast growing and is harvested early, and thus reduces the duration of competition and allows light to be transmitted through its canopy to an undersown species more so than other companion crops such as small grain.

  • Weeds severely affect crop quality and yield. Therefore, successful farming relies on their control by coordinated management approaches. Among these, chemical herbicides are of key importance. Their development and commercialization began in the 1940's and they allowed for a qualitative increase in crop yield and quality when it was most needed. This book blends review chapters with scientific studies, creating an overview of some the current trends in the field of herbicides.

  • 2 Cropping systems for fruit Fruit is produced in almost every farming system. Some fruits are collected in the natural vegetation (‘in the wild’). In shifting cultivation systems, fruit trees are often planted along with the field crops after a plot has been cleared. During the first year or two of the next fallow period the resurging natural vegetation is slashed to enable the fruit trees to survive and bear fruit.

  • As the ratio of oxygen to fuel (or air to fuel) decreases, the products change from the desired carbon dioxide to the undesired carbon monoxide and then to soot (which is almost pure carbon) or unburned heptane. When an engine is operating on a high value of air/fuel ratio, we say the engine is running lean. Sometimes we may also speak of a lean-burning engine. When the air/fuel ratio is low, we say that the engine is running or burning rich. The carburetor or fuel injector system of an engine can be adjusted, at least to some extent, to change this ratio. It would seem,...

In 2006, there were about 3,500 certified organic farms, representing 1.5% of all farms in Canada [6]. Nearly half (45%) of these farms are situated in the Prairie Provinces, with Saskatchewan accounting for about one-third of the nationwide total. • The farmer who has fought "bugs" on crop after crop needs no argument to convince him that insects are serious enemies to agriculture. Yet even he may be surprised to learn that the damage done by them, as estimated by good authority, amounts to millions and millions of dollars yearly in the United States and Canada. Every one thinks he knows what an insect is. If, however, we are willing in this matter to make our notion agree with that of the people who have studied insects most and know them best, we must include among the true insects...
