  • Sediment Transport in Aquatic Environments is a book which covers a wide range of topics. The effective management of many aquatic environments, requires a detailed understanding of sediment dynamics. This has both environmental and economic implications, especially where there is any anthropogenic involvement. Numerical models are often the tool used for predicting the transport and fate of sediment movement in these situations, as they can estimate the various spatial and temporal fluxes.

  • In this paper, natural frequency of completely fluid-filled composite circular cylindrical shells on Winkler and Pasternak elastic foundations are studied. The Dynamic Stiffness Method is employed to solve the cylindrical shell problem. Natural frequencies of fluid-filled cylindrical shells based on elastic foundations are evaluated. It is observed that frequencies are strongly affected when a cylindrical shell is attached with elastic foundations.

  • Our goal in writing this book was to describe why weeds occur where they do. We have made no attempt to discuss their management and control: there are excellent texts available for that. Rather, we think that students should understand how and why weeds fit into their environment. This text presents ecological principles as they relate to weeds. Ecology is central to our understanding of how and why weeds invade and yet there are few books that make this connection. That is the niche we hope to fill.

  • At this level we need a model with two components and one constraint. The constraint is the ability to take into account the nonlinearities in the ináation and the term structure dynamics, a usual empirical fact in past studies and a possible outcome of the creation of the ECB. The Örst component is intended to identify the long-term perception of monetary policy by private agents.

  • Quickly I received a response from the GEA at post; including a detailed explanation of the GEI office in general. In the email that followed, the GEA informed me that she already had a job in mind but would like to have more of a clarification of my wants, needs and abilities. She then sent me a question-answer sheet called a Skills Assessment Form via email for me to fill out to help her identify my skills. Within days, the GEA was able to make a connection for me by identifying an “Investigative Assistant” position which fit perfectly...

  • This book owes its inception to my fascination with the natural microcosms that are water-filled tree holes and, subsequently, the broader class of plant container habitats we call phytotelmata. That fascination was born, first, in a Somerset woodland, when my fellow undergraduate Alastair Sommerville pointed out to me a massive stump hole, commenting that such places were both entomologically special and of great potential as objects of ecological study.

  • The key component of osteocyte’s mechanosensing apparatus is the pericellular matrix. limited electron microscope studies reveal that this fluffy “jungle” consists of nanoscale fibrous structures, (about 100nm thick), filling the tiny gap between the cell membrane and the bone matrix. Mechanically, it controls the hydraulic permeability of the bone tissue, determining how easy fluid flows around the cells under external loading.

  • Mining wastes can cause significant ecological destruction. Often, solid mine wastes are dumped into streams, destroying habitat and causing siltation and heavy metal and other contamination. Even when such wastes are stored out of water channels, trace materials can leach into surface waters and infiltrate into local groundwater. Fine- grained tailings can wash into local waterways and degrade streams by covering and filling coarser-grained substrates.
