  • In this report, we examine the unsteady Stokes equations with nonhomogeneous boundary conditions. As an application of a Carleman estimate, we first establish log type stabilities for the solution of the equations from either an interior measurement of the velocity, or a boundary observation depending on the trace of the velocity and of the Cauchy stress tensor measurements on a part of the boundary.

  • In addition, strategies to improve the performance of MFC using biomass and future scenarios were highlighted. This review aims to evaluate the performance and applicability of flows in honeycomb MFC. It also assesses the respective performances, advantages and disadvantages, and potential future applications of MFCs with recirculation flow.

  • : Fluid vents in the Sea of Marmara were discovered and investigated by several studies. In this paper, a numerical model is created for the first time to determine the possible transport mechanism behind those fluid emissions at the seafloor. The finite volume method is used for numerical simulations by implementing a commercial finite volume code, ANSYS-Fluent. The thermal and physical rock properties used in our models are taken from previous studies.

  • The thesis will solve the following two basic objectives: Clarifying the effect of hydrodynamic and geometric factors on the current velocity due to wave at the dike toe by using rocks; Determining the formula to calculate the maximum flow velocity at the foot of the embankment (dike toe), then select the solution to design the structure of the foot protection of the embankment in both with or without roughness structures

  • We study the higher differentiability of stationary solutions up to the flat boundary for a class of systems of fluid mechanics modelling flows of incompressible fluids with shear and pressure dependent viscosity in 2D or 3D. We consider systems which are a kind of generalized Navier-Stokes system where stress tensor T has linear growth in symmetric velocity gradient and dependence of viscosity on the pressure is small with respect to an ellipticity constant.

  • Development of knowledge of cardiovascular diseases and treatments strongly depends on understanding of hemodynamic measurements. Hemodynamic parameters, therefore, have been investigated using simulation-based methods.

  • In this study, effects of voidage distribution to gas velocity profile in a packed bed with pellet particles was empirically investigated. Uniformity of local velocity at the top of the bed was clearly observed with decreasing of bed height and flow rate. For 400 mm of bed height, the measured velocities are a well fitting to Fahien and Stankovich model for any expected flow rate.

  • This paper proposes a hydrodynamic/sediment model for simulating bedload sediment through a river section. Firstly, flow characteristics such as depth-averaged velocity were obtained by solving the governing equation, which is derived from the Reynolds equations and allows for taking into account the gravity, bed shear stress, turbulent diffusion force and secondary flow in calculations.

  • The article will research a lander flying into the atmosphere with flow velocity constraint, i.e. the total load by means of minimizing the total thermal energy at the end of the landing process. The lander’s distance at the last moment depends on the variables selected from the total thermal energy minima.

  • In this project, traffic simulation according to the cellular automaton of the Nagel-Schreckenberg model (1992) with different boundary conditions. The sudden occurrence of traffic jams is successfully realised as well as boundary induced phases and phase transitions are observed in the Asymmetric Simple Exclusion Process. The extension to the Velocity Dependent Randomization model leads to metastabile high flow states and hysteresis of the flow. The impact of speed limits on the probability of the formation of traffic jams is investigated.

  • I present the investigation involving two extensions of the cellular automaton based NagelSchreckenberg model, the Velocity-Dependent-Randomisation (VDR) model, and the two-lane model for symmetric and asymmetric lane changing rule sets. The study of the VDR model outlines a potential method in extending the lifetime of a metastable state and consequently postponing an inevitable traffic jam by orders of magnitude. The two lane model produces a so called "critical" and "sub-critical" flow which combined cause the collapse of flow at a critical density.

  • Fluid Kinematics deals with the motion of fluids without necessarily considering the forces and moments which create the motion. Two ways to describe motion are Lagrangian and Eulerian description. Lagrangian description of fluid flow tracks the position and velocity of individual particles. (eg. Brilliard ball on a pooltable.)

  • The chapter on uniform flow in open channels is basic knowledge required for all hydraulics students. In this chapter, we shall assume the flow to be uniform, unless specified otherwise. This chapter guides students how to determine the rate of discharge, the depth of flow, and the velocity. The slope of the bed and the cross-sectional area remain constant over the given length of the channel under the uniform-flow conditions. The same holds for the computation of the most economical cross section when designing the channel.

  • Linking up with Chapter 2, dealing with uniform flow in open channels, it may be noted that any change in the flow phenomenon (i.e. flow rate, velocity, flow depth, flow area, bed slope do not remain constant) causes the flow to be non-uniform. This chapter will discuss the effect of change in any one of the above quantities, including specific energy, critical depth and slope, and flow types. How to draw water surface profiles will also be introduced.
