The mode I and mode II fracture behavior of a single-layer graphene sheet (SLGS) containing a center crack was characterized with the results of an finite element method (FEM) and an analytical model. Finite element method based micromechanical analysis is used to understand the fracture behavior of functionally SLGS.

This study describes the process evaluation of an intervention developed to reduce fear of falling (FoF) after hip fracture, within an inpatient geriatric rehabilitation setting. This ‘FIT-HIP intervention’ is a multicomponent cognitive behavioral intervention, conducted by physiotherapists and embedded in usual care in geriatric rehabilitation in the Netherlands.

The brittle fracture mode by cleavage is accounted for by Ritchie–Knott–Rice's deterministic maximum principal stress criterion (Ritchie et al., 1973). The wellknown problem of mesh dependence associated with softening material behavior is remedied by using an integral type nonlocal formulation similar to that presented in Tvergaard and Needleman (1995).

The results demonstrate that localization analyses are a cost-effective and reliable tool for predicting ductile failure, reducing the number of mechanical tests required to calibrate the MMC fracture model compared to the hybrid experimental-numerical approach usually applied.

This paper presentsa3D finite element modeling of the flexural behaviorof ultrahigh-performanceconcrete (UHPC).A four-point flexural teston a UHPCprestressed T girder is considered. The flexuralstrength and cracks pattern of girder are addressed. UHPC material is supposed to be homogeneous andisotropic material. It follows a nonlinear fracture model. The results are comparedwith experimentally captured measurementsand qualitatively discussed.

In this paper, we develop a numerical approach to simulate the 2D complex damage and fracture process of quasi-brittle concrete materials. Based on the phase field theory for the case of elastic isotropic multicomponent materials and the generation process based upon Monte Carlo’s simulation method, we construct a numerical procedure to solve complex damage thermodynamic problems.

In this paper, the phase field method will be used to model the cracking propagation at the small scale for elastic media. This method is doing well in DEAL.II with the help of local refinement technique which allows studying the tensile strength of fractured rock mass behavior without prior knowledge of cracking propagation path and reduction of computational consumption.

The fracture characteristics of single-lap bonded joints in composites to be investigated by structural analysis and experimentally. The effects of bonding method, surface roughness, bond line thickness and the existence of fillet on the failure characteristics and strength of bonded single-lap joints were evaluated experimentally. The failure process, failure mode and the behavior of loaddisplacement curve was apparently different according to bonding method to be evaluated.

For this study, different volume fraction (vol.%) of particulate alumina (Al2O3) reinforced aluminium alloy (Al 6061) with 5 vol.%, 15 vol.% and 25 vol.% are produced by powder metallurgy method. These samples were subjected to biaxial stresses in order to investigate the behaviour of the metal matrix composites (MMCs). Microstructure analysis on the individual sample before and after loading was performed under scanning electron microscopy. The small particles of 2 µm in size have exhibited strong interfacial bonding with the matrix.

Al-Li alloys are attractive for military and aerospace applications because their properties are superior to those of conventional Al alloys. Their exceptional properties are attributed to the addition of Li into the Al matrix, and the technical reasons for adding Li to the Al matrix are presented. The developmental history and applications of Al-Li alloys over the last few years are reviewed. The main issue of Al-Li alloys is anisotropic behavior, and the main reasons for the anisotropic tensile properties and practical methods to reduce it are also introduced.

Since AA2060-T8 was introduced in the past few years, investigating the mechanical response, fracture mechanisms, and anisotropic behaviour of AA2060-T8 sheets under high strain rate deformation has been crucial. Thus, uniaxial tensile tests were performed under quasi-static, intermediate, and high strain rate conditions using universal testing machines as well as split Hopkinson tensile bars.

We added CaCO3 whiskers into polyvinyl alcohol (PVA)-steel hybrid fiber system to obtain multiscale hybrid fiber reinforced cement mortar (MHFRC). Three-point bending (3-p-b) tests were carried out on 64 notched beams to investigate fracture behavior of MHFRC. Double K Fracture Criterion (DKFC) and Work Fracture Method (WFM) were employed to obtain fracture parameters. Influence of the volume fraction of CaCO3 whiskers, content of PVA-steel hybrid fiber and water/ cement ratio (w/c) on fracture parameters are discussed.

Moreover, the elastic modulus of U1-yThyO2 solid solutions with different content of thorium at 300 K was also studied and the results accorded well with the experimental data available in the literature. In addition, the fracture mode of nanocrystalline U0.5Th0.

The fracture to toughness ratio (bulk modulus/shear modulus) in sodium borohydride varied from 1.91 to 1.62, which shows its behavioral change from ductile to brittle on increasing the temperature. Then, ultrasonic Gruneisen ¨ parameters have been computed with the use of elastic constants in the temperature regime 100- 300K. The obtained results have been discussed in correlation with available experimental and theoretical results.
