From a linguistic point of view, a key component of the task corresponds to identifying the semantic arguments filling the roles of the sentence predicates. Typical predicate semantic arguments include Agent, Patient, and Instrument, but semantic roles may also be found as adjuncts (e.g., Locative, Temporal, Manner, and Cause).

  • The need for a money market arises because receipts of economic units do not coincide with their expenditures. These units can hold money balances—that is, transactions balances in the form of currency, demand deposits, or NOW accounts—to insure that planned expenditures can be maintained independently of cash receipts. Holding these balances, however, involves a cost in the form of foregone interest. To minimize this cost, economic units usually seek to hold the minimum money balances required for day-to- day transactions.

Let us assume that this cross-country relationship holds intertemporally for the 13 countries that account for 80 percent of SFU mortality. In the 11 countries other than China and India in figure 1.1, it would take about 55 years to reduce SFU prevalence to 50-55 percent and 75 years to reduce SFU prevalence to 10 percent, at a per capita income growth of 3 percent per year. In China and...

  • Once students undertake this project, your role is to help them understand the science of what’s happening by asking questions. I am always amazed that students cannot answer the most basic questions about the experiment, such as “What did the car do?” Until they understand that you will hold them responsible for looking, listening, and understanding, they will take the easy way out: “I don’t know.” If they say they didn’t see what happened, direct them to run the experiment again with the forewarning that you will ask the same question immediately afterward.

At its origin, the terms were used to designate the two slopes of a mountain. The sunny side was Yang and the shady side was Yin. Later, their meaning broadened to include all opposites.

Health groups have long called for a statutory system to regulate marketing of junk food to children on promotional websites, text messages, in-store placements, cinema adverts and posters - but until now, no one has set out what these arrangements might look like. I commend this report as the first serious attempt to design a truly comprehensive statutory system of regulation for non- broadcast food marketing.
