Genotype × environment (G × E) interaction plays a key role for better genetic improvement and identifies high yielding and stable cultivars under varying environmental conditions. Genetically stable traits play a key role in sugarcane breeding for improvement in sugarcane and sugar productivity. Present finding elucidates the relative magnitude of G × E interaction effects and evaluating phenotypic stability of 226 segregating genotypes for sugar and yield-related traits and for their regression coefficient (bi) and population mean (X ̅) over the locations.

A standard multi-factor analysis of variance showed the main effect due to years, locations and first order interactions (year x location) were highly significant. The main effect for genotype, first order interaction (varieties x locations), (variety x year) and second order interaction (varieties x locations x year) were highly significant. The highly significant interactions indicate that varieties need to be tested in severe years and locations in order to select stable variety.

Seven release varieties of sugarcane (Saccharum officinarum L.) were evaluated for G X E interaction, adaptability with sustainability index and their comparison for cane yield (t/ha) incomplete randomized block design during spring season of 2015-16, 2016-17, 2017-18, 2018-19 & 2019-20 at Agricultural Research station, Ummedganj, Kota under SouthEastern Plane Zone of Rajasthan. The mean cane yield (t/ha.), regression coefficient (bi) and deviation from regression (S2 d) with sustainability index was used to identify the stability and adaptability of popular sugarcane varieties.

Genotype-environment interaction and stability analysis has been important for plant breeders and plays a vital role in identifying genotypes that are stable or unstable in each environment. Varieties that show low G x E interaction and high yield are desirable for crop breeders. The study was conducted in 2018 at six locations in India to determine the presence of G x E of 171 single cross maize genotypes and to use the GGE biplot methodology to determine grain yield performance and stability of the genotypes evaluated across six environments.

The chickpea crop is highly sensitive to temperature and other climate condition. Genotype × environment interaction (G x E) is a major constraint to identify single superior genotype for a number of variable environments. Present study was undertaken for estimation of the impact of G x E interaction on seed yield of chickpea and to identify relatively stable genotypes across environments using 40 chickpea genotypes. Data were collected on twelve yield related traits.

Cotton is a long duration crop and grown over a wide range of environments. It is, therefore necessary to evaluate cotton genotypes in different environments to know its stability in varying environmental conditions. The knowledge of kind and magnitude of G x E interaction has become essential to the plant breeder in taking the decisions concerning breeding methods, selection programmes and their testing procedures in crop plants. Stability in yield is a major consideration in breeding of rainfed cotton which is highly influenced by erratic and uncertain rainfall conditions.

estimate GxE by parametric and non-parametric measures. Highly significant differences among genotypes, environments and G x E interaction were observed. Wide variation seen genotypes average yield and G10, G12, and G4 were high yielder genotypes. Value of bi > 1 resulted for G12, G10, G11, G5, and G8 besides bi < 1 for G12. Measures W2 i and σ2 i pointed towards G15, G13, G6, G4 as desirable genotypes.
