None of these 44 individual cases had traveled to Mexico, California, or Texas; however, other reports have linked cases in the school to travel to Mexico. Onset of illness occurred between April 2024, 2009. Clinical details reveal no severe cases. The vast majority of cases had influenzalike symptoms, listed in Table 1 below, and a substantial proportion reported gastrointestinal symptoms.

  • In 1991 I was presenter of the BBC’s Watchdog programme, married to my copresenter John Stapleton with a two-year-old son. Life was good. I had never heard of bowel cancer, had no idea that it was the second biggest cancer killer in the UK. So I had no worries that the subtle symptom I had spotted intermittently – just a bit of rectal bleeding – might be serious. When my GP reassured me that it was ‘nothing to worry about’ at my age, ‘probably piles’, I believed him. It was a terrible shock to discover nearly a year later, through my persistence, that I had advanced bowel...

  • An English translation of L’Echographie Générale en Réanimation was necessary, after two French versions in 1992 and 2002. Ultrasound has, it is true, gained a more important place in emergency and intensive care medicine.Technological evolution alone does not explain this popularity. Technology develops extremely quickly, but we have always suggested – and continue to do so – that before rushing to the most modern ultrasound units, we should already make optimal use of so-called obsolete devices.
