  • This paper presents a design, simulation and analysis of a vibratory micromachining gyroscope. The gyroscope structure is based on the driving and sensing proof-mass configuration. The gyroscope dimensions are 1644 µm wide, 1754 µm long, 30µm thickness. The suspended spring consists of two silicon cantilevers of driving-mode and sensing-mode stiffness are 400 N/m and 165 N/m, respectively.

  • Gyroscopic precession is a key factor involved in the concept of operation for the north-seeking gyrocompass, as will be discussed later. Friction in the support bearings, external influences, and small imbalances inherent in the construction of the rotor cause even the best mechanical gyros to drift with time. Typical systems employed in inertial navigation packages by the commercial airline industry may drift about 0.1 during a 6-hour flight [Martin, 1986]. 2.1.

  • This textbook covers all the standard introductory topics in classical mechanics, including Newton's laws, oscillations, energy, momentum, angular momentum, planetary motion, and special relativity. It also explores more advanced topics, such as normal modes, the Lagrangian method, gyroscopic motion, fictitious forces, 4-vectors, and general relativity. It contains more than 250 problems with detailed solutions so students can easily check their understanding of the topic. There are also over 350 unworked exercises which are ideal for homework assignments.

  • It is an extremely effective and versatile procedure for combining noisy sensor outputs to estimate the state of a system with uncertain dynamics. For our purposes in this book: The noisy sensors may include GPS receivers and inertial sensors (accelerometers and gyroscopes, typically) but may also include speed sensors (e.g., wheel speeds of land vehicles, water speed sensors for ships, air speed sensors for aircraft, or Doppler radar), and time sensors (clocks).

  • Ground vehicles can navigate using signals from external navigation systems such as the Global Positioning System (GPS) (Figure 1.1), or by using signals from internal devices such as a compass, an odometer, a gyroscope, an accelerometer, or a full-blown inertial navigation system (INS). In practice, the most reliable and accurate navigation is obtained by combining data from all available sources, including static databases such as a digitized map. This chapter will discuss many of these sources of navigation data, and methods for combining them....

  • FIGURE 2.16 Google Search activates voice search using the proximity sensor. MOTION SENSOR NOTE iPhone 4 has a three-axis gyroscope. Paired with the accelerometer, it makes the iPhone capable of advanced motion sensing, such as user acceleration, angular velocity, and rotation rate. One of the most widely used sensors is the accelerometer, also known as a “motion” sensor. The accelerometer can detect the iPhone’s orientation and adjust the display accordingly.

  • What really sets the iPhone apart from laptops and PCs is its use of onboard sensors, including those that are location-enabled. This concise book takes experienced iPhone and Mac developers on a detailed tour of iPhone and iPad hardware by explaining how these sensors work, and what they're capable of doing. With this book, you'll build sample applications for each sensor, and learn hands-on how to take advantage of the data each sensor produces. You'll gain valuable experience that you can immediately put to work inside your own iOS applications for the iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad.
