  • In this study, regression analysis was used for estimating the relationships among water quality parameters measured at the Son La hydropower reservoir and the fluxes of greenhouse gas emissions from the reservoir. The regression analysis was also applied to develop regression equations predicting emissions of greenhouse gases from the lake.

  • With the aim to develop hydropower potential of the Lower Mekong Basin (LMB) and not to cause substantial impacts to natural environment, in 1980s and early 1990s of the last century, the then Interim Mekong Committee had studied a cascade of run-of-river hydropower projects in the Mekong mainstream. In 2008, Hydropower Development Programme of the Mekong River Committee (MRC) proposed a scenario consisting of 11 run-of-river hydropower projects. Luangprabang hydropower (LHP) is the second cascade in Laos and the tenth cascade from upstream of Lancang- Mekong river.

  • This paper presents an analysis of the benefits of climate change adaptation from small and medium scale hydropower plants in Lao Cai Province. Lao Cai is a mountainous province with high hydropower potential. Totally 116 small and medium hydropower projects in different stages of development have been identified with installed capacities ranging from 0.9 MW to 60 MW. Based on the results of statistic downscaling, four climate change scenarios were developed for the Lao Cai province area.

  • Energy is defined as the ability to do work. Energy is found in different forms, such as heat, light, motion, and sound. There are many forms of energy, but they can all be put into two categories: kinetic and potential. Electrical, radiant, thermal, motion, and sound energies are kinetic; chemical, stored mechanical, nuclear, and gravitational energies are potential forms of energy

  • Hydrology is a branch of scientific and engineering discipline that deals with the occurrence, distribution, movement, and properties of the waters of the earth. A knowledge of hydrology is fundamental to water and environmental professionals (engineers, scientists and decision makers) in such tasks as the design and operation of water resources, wastewater treatment, irrigation, flood defence, navigation, pollution control, hydropower, ecosystem modelling, etc.

  • A slight loss of refrigerant is recognized by ‘bubbles’ in the liquid-indicating sight glass installed in the liquid line of a system, a loss of performance, partial frosting of the evaporator and lower than normal operating pressures. Refrigerant may be added in vapour form to the low side of the system if the refrigerant is azeotropic such as R502. This means that it reacts as a single substance refrigerant. The zeotropic refrigerant blends do not react in a similar manner and they should be added to a system in liquid form. ...

  • Few issues display more clearly the competition between China’s drive to become economically developed and to conserve biodiversity than hydropower development. This is the subject of China’s most recent environmental controversy. In August 2003, the National Development and Reform Commission, a powerful economics super-ministry, authorized construction of a 13-station dam along the Nu1 River (Nujiang) in Yunnan Province. After at least a decade of construction, the dam would become the world’s largest.

  • Renewable energy technologies—including solar, wind, biomass, geothermal, and hydropower—are in many ways attractive to policy makers who must address these market disruptions and the economic and social strife they can create. Renewable energy technologies are advantageous because they are immune to price shocks from fuel supply constraints and cartel pricing. Furthermore, renewable energy resources are much more environmentally benign than their conventional counterparts, such as coal, nuclear, and petroleum products.
