This study aimed to evaluate the effects of chemical and organic fertilizers in different fertilization regimes on vegetative growth, fruit yield, and fruit quality of tomatoes. The experiment was arranged in a randomized complete block design with three replications in the winter season of 2021.

The development of fruits without fertilization is known as parthenocarpy. Parthenocarpy improves the fruit quality, processing attributes, production and productivity of vegetable crops like tomato, cucumber, watermelon etc. Absence of seeds can enhances the shelf life of the fruits, allowing a better conservation, fruit set in adverse climatic conditions, early and offseason production of vegetable crops. Therefore, it is important to ensure yield stability regardless of environmental conditions.

The fruit industry in Vietnam has a great potential and plays an important role in agricultural production. In 2003, Vietnam exported US$43 million of high value fruit to high-income countries and imported US$14 million of fruit and vegetables. Vietnam is experiencing difficulties in competing with other Asian nations in export markets and its own domestic market, especially with China and Thailand. This suggests that Vietnam’s horticultural industries require substantial development to be globally competitive. Vietnamese consumers are demanding safer and higher quality fruit.

This project will enhance the capacity in Vietnam to 'train the trainers', extension workers and staff responsible for the maintenance of quality of commodities during storage and marketing. PHTI will provide flexible integrated courses on various aspects of post-harvest commodity quality management, with particular attention to containment and loss reduction. To enable Vietnam to exploit these markets and meet the stringent quality standards required, much greater attention needs to be placed on better postharvest handling, safety and packaging of fresh produce.
